Most brides dream of walking down the aisle in a pristine white gown, the hall decked with beautiful flowers, and a perfect cake to match the occasion. Yes, wedding cakes form an integral part of a couple’s celebration. So you invest not only your time but also money in choosing a cake that perfectly aligns with your wedding theme.
But what happens when the cake fails to live up to your expectation and becomes a cause for embarrassment?
This is what happened when a Singapore couple’s expensive wedding cake arrived melted and late to the venue!
S’pore Couple’s Affordable Wedding Cake Arrives Melted

The bridesmaid took to Facebook to share details of the mishap that took place at her best friend’s wedding.
The couple had apparently chosen a cookie cake after choosing from a long list of pictures provided by the baker. Even though they never expected the final cake to look the same, the one that arrived was far below their expectation.
On top of it, the cake arrived later than the scheduled time. The user posted that it apparently arrived after 12.30 pm, which was when people were already occupying the area to take pictures.
Bakery told to contact the owner
The bridesmaid then decided to express her disappointment at the cake’s quality. On hearing her feedback, the person who was assembling the cake removed it immediately and shared that a full refund will be provided.
But it was difficult for her to make this decision because she wasn’t the bride here and didn’t have the right to cancel the cake-cutting ceremony. But on the other hand, guests were already leaving.
So she asked the bakery for a solution, to which she was told to ask the bride to liaise with the owner directly, and the assemblers left the venue.
Couple Allegedly Given Only $70 As Refund
It’s been reported that the couple and their friends made desperate attempts to reach the owner, but to no avail.
In the end, they received $70 out of the $330 amount paid for the cake. They were told that the rest of the amount was for the labour that went into baking, including the cost of the ingredients.
The bridesmaid alleged that the baker had promised the following to the bride:
- They will be using a clear acetate to support the cake from all around
- The baker will also use a strong whip for buttercream so the cake is able to hold for a longer duration of time at room temperature.
After the bridesmaid posted the entire incident on Facebook, the seller asked her to remove the post as she was being unnecessarily harassed.
The bridesmaid ended her note by asking people to do their due diligence before choosing their bakers.
Bakery Issues Apology

The bakery in question, named Sugary Kneads Co issued an apology on Instagram following the incident, stating that the cake melted due to hot weather.
The owner hoped all the “fake accusations” and “‘unnecessary harassment’ will stop soon.
The bakery further clarified in the post that the refund amount is only 25% because 50% has already gone into ingredients and 25% on labour. As a result, only 25% was refunded to the aggrieved party.
In the post, it was also mentioned that the bakery will be closed till September 10 and they will take this time to improve their baking skills.
But There Is Another Side To The Story
In the latest development, speaking to MustShare News, the owner of the bakery clarified that she has fully refunded the couple.
The owner further added that she did not promise that the cake would resemble the one in the picture sent to the bride. Instead, she highlighted that the picture was used for the bride’s reference of lace piping and flowers.
“We said the cookie cake will look like a cake, not that it would look exactly like the one in the picture,” clarified the owner of the bakery.
The bakery owner also added that on the day of the wedding, her team arrived at 12.30 pm sharp. After receiving the feedback that the cake was “poorly made,” the bakery offered to take it back and initiate a full refund on the spot.
But the bridesmaid said that it’s okay and she will talk to the team later.
The owner further shared that she told the client that there were some minor adjustments that needed to be made to the cake as she couldn’t work on the lace pipings and she feared that it would melt right off the cake.
She admitted that it’s her fault because she didn’t explain this well to the bridesmaid.
The owner added that the back and forth in communication on that day added more to the confusion.
The bakery owner also wondered why the bride and the bridesmaid did not agree to let her take the cake back on the day itself so that they could process a full refund then and there.
“We are all humans and we make mistakes”

We understand that it was a special day for the couple and the entire experience has been a cause of stress and embarrassment for them.
Even though they went for an affordable wedding cake, (which is completely their individual choice) but, they still did spend the money in anticipation of an expectation that was never met.
To give you an estimate, the price of a wedding cake in Singapore starts from $725 for a two-tier cake (which is good for 85 guests) and rises to $1,000 for a three-tier cake for around 100 guests. The prices may also vary depending on the number of sponge layers and other trimmings that you want on your cake.
The above incident highlights the need for both parties to be transparent in their dealings. Also, couples need to be in sync with reality and not just run after closing it at a cheap deal.
Since the bakery issued an apology, we hope both parties would be able to come to an amicable settlement soon!
