Adrift Gift: Turning Marine Trash Into Sustainable Gifts From The Heart

3 min read

Launched just in time for World Cleanup Day, on 18 September, Adrift Gift (https://adriftgift.com/) is a bespoke eco-friendly e-gift shop that celebrates the beauty and resources that the sea provides while raising awareness of the issues surrounding marine pollution. 10% of proceeds from every purchase in 2021 will be donated to Beyond Social Services, a charity dedicated to helping children and youth from disadvantaged backgrounds break away from the cycle of poverty.

Founded by Serena Adsit, founder of Mint Modelling Agency and the Sustainability & Conservation interest group within Entrepreneurs Organization (Singapore), Adrift Gift offers a light-hearted approach to sharing information on marine pollution and the conservation of marine life.

Adrift Gift combines an upcycling initiative with an excuse for people to reconnect through handwritten notes of love, joy, and cheer after an extended period of social distancing.

“My big vision is to create an opportunity for people who feel passionate about the plastics issue and want to create change to be able to easily ignite conversations about conservation with friends and family and motivate them to start their own micro-movement in the name of sustainability and conservation of wildlife.”
Serena Adsit, Founder and designer of Adrift Gift

The range of unique ‘sad-cute’ greeting cards and single-edition art pieces, are personally designed and handmade by Serena, so no two designs are the same.

Each card features hand drawn cartoons of marine life she has encountered along the Singapore shores and embellished with gems of marine debris that she picks up on her weekly stand up paddleboarding trips out to sea.

Launching with the Singapore Series, the eight designs showcase the biodiversity in the waters around Singapore, featuring adorable Otters, Dugong, Blacktip Reef Shark, Jellyfish, Cockles and Turtle juxtaposed against marine trash left adrift at sea from yesteryears persisting through time and space, as evidenced by trash washed up from our neighbouring countries.

By incorporating pieces of marine trash, such as disintegrated plastic bottles, plastic bags and yarn, Adrift Gift cards tangibly bring to light the pervasiveness of the issue and encourage its recipients to practice more sustainable lifestyles.

Designs will be added and refreshed monthly with an upcoming collection of childrens’ day bookmarks scheduled to launch in October.

In commemoration of its launch and World Cleanup Day, Adrift Gift is inviting like-minded people to join in a stand-up paddleboard clean up effort along the shores of Sentosa on 18 September, Saturday. Follow @adriftgift on Instagram and Adrift Gift on Facebook for more information.
