8 Natural ways to remove head lice off your child

8 Natural ways to remove head lice off your child

You may find your child suddenly scratching her hair after a fun play outdoors with other kids. When you see her scratching again, check her head right away. Those tiny transparent insects may be inhabiting your precious child’s head already.

Here are some tips to remove and prevent those itchy insects off her head.

1. Fine-Toothed Nit Comb

1. Fine-Toothed Nit Comb

Use a fine-toothed nit comb and comb the hair over a piece of white paper to see if adult lice fall out, The nits can be seen on the hair. If you find any, check the rest of the family.

2. Neem and Turmeric

2. Neem and Turmeric

Research in India suggests that neem and turmeric work on the removal of lice. Apply the combination of neem and turmeric pastes on the head. Leave for an hour and comb out the hair. Then rinse out the rest with water.

3. Citronella Oil

3. Citronella Oil

Apply citronella oil to the hair. Cover with a bathing cap. Leave on for 8 hours. Shampoo, rinse and comb out remaining lice and nits. If itching or burning occurs, wash it out of the hair naturally.

4. Olive Oil and Vinegar

4. Olive Oil and Vinegar

To get rid of the eggs, mix equal parts olive oil and vinegar and apply to the scalp. Keep the solutions on the head for at least 2 hours, and then wash the hair. Comb out remaining lice.

5. Garlic and Water

5. Garlic and Water

You can also blend garlic with water. Apply the same as with the olive oil and vinegar solution. It Is equally effective.

6. Essential Oils

6. Essential Oils

Mix 2 ounces of olive oil with 15 to 20 drops of any of these essential oils - Tea Tree, Lavender, Neem, Clove, Eucalyptus, Aniseed, Cinnamon Leaf, Peppermint or Nutmeg Oil.

Apply to the scalp using cotton balls. Leave this mixture on the scalp and hair overnight—at least 12 hours. Comb out the lice. Shampoo and Rinse.

Apply hot vinegar to the hair to loosen eggs. Keep it there for 2 hours. Comb out the dead lice and eggs.

8. Wash  Linens, Combs and Towels

8. Wash Linens, Combs and Towels

Wash linens, combs and towels in very hot water. Tell your child not to share combs or hats.

Repeat the natural method you have chosen until no more lice and eggs show on your comb.
