2024 School Terms and Holidays: MOE Unveils Essential Dates for Students and Parents to Plan Ahead

The Ministry of Education has released the 2024 school terms and holidays for all MOE kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, junior colleges, and Millennia Institute. Here’s everything parents need to know.

Start of the 2024 School Terms

Primary one and kindergarten one students will kickstart the 2024 school terms on January 2nd. Students from primary two to six, as well as kindergarten two, will commence their school term on January 3rd.

For junior college and Millennia Institute year one students, their academic journey begins in February 2024, ending on November 22nd. Millenia Institute year two and three, along with junior college year two students, will start their classes from January 8th, 2024, until the conclusion of the GCE A-Level examinations.

2024 School Holidays

The four vacation periods for MOE kindergarten, primary and secondary schools in 2024 are as follows:

  • March 9 to 17

  • May 25 to June 23

  • August 31 to September 8

  • November 16 to December 31

For junior colleges and the Millenia Institute, the vacation periods are slightly different:

  • March 9 to 17

  • May 25 to June 23

  • August 31 to September 8

  • November 23 to December 31

Note that as Youth Day falls on Sunday, June 30, the following Monday, July 1, will be observed as a school holiday. Teachers’ Day will fall on August 30, and Children’s Day will be celebrated on October 4.

2024 Public Holidays Impacting School Terms

Several public holidays will also impact the 2024 school terms and holidays. These include:

  • New Year’s Day: Monday, January 1

  • Chinese New Year: Saturday, February 10 – Sunday, February 11. Monday, February 12, will be a public holiday, and Tuesday, February 13, will be a school holiday as a designated day off-in-lieu.

  • Good Friday: Friday, March 29

  • Hari Raya Puasa: Wednesday, April 10

  • Labour Day: Wednesday, May 1

  • Vesak Day: Wednesday, May 22

  • Hari Raya Haji: Monday, June 17

  • National Day: Friday, August 9

  • Deepavali: Thursday, October 31

  • Christmas Day: Wednesday, December 25
