10 ideal picnic spots in Singapore

31 Aug, 2013

Here's our recommendation for 10 ideal picnic spots for you and your family to enjoy on a sunny day out in Singapore.

East Coast Park

East Coast Park

If you’re a Singaporean, East Coast Park will definitely ring a bell. To most of us, it is one of the most ideal picnic spots in Singapore. Its 15km beach promenade promises a fun-filled day of sporty activities and barbeques.

The promenade is also dotted with cafes and pubs offering scrumptious meals if picnics aren't really your thing. Rent a single bike, family bike or some blades to work off some of the food.

Chinese Gardens

Chinese Gardens

This is the ideal place for a lackadaisical afternoon for you and your family. Old folks would enjoy the serene gardens that surround the place while your kids will have the time of their lives flying kites, leaving you and hubby some alone time in the peaceful green paradise.

MacRitchie Reservoir

MacRitchie Reservoir

MacRitchie Reservoir is Singapore’s oldest and most popular nature park. Whether you are an athletic or simply nature loving, this park may be the ideal spot for you and your family. There are plenty of tables and benches along the reservoir available for you to set up a nice lunch after all that hiking or even, catching spiders.

Hort Park

Hort Park

Hort Park is Singapore’s one-stop gardening lifestyle hub that is also the perfect place to let your children roam free. There is a lawn with plenty of shade for you and your family to relax in.

Marina Barrage

Marina Barrage

A picnic with an extraordinary view of Singapore’s skyline! Nothing beats having a picnic or a kite flying session with views of the impressive city landscape.

Bishan Park

Bishan Park

If you don’t wish to leave your beloved doggy at home, this 62-hectre and newly renovated park is the place to go. Bishan park now includes a revamped dog area for your four legged friend to mingle around and play till their hearts content. It even includes a water park for your kids to splash around, complete with shower facilities to clean up after all that play!

Esplanade Park

Esplanade Park

If you are thinking of situating yourself amidst lush greenery, with the city as a backdrop, Esplanade Park may be your ideal choice for a picnic location for you and your family.

Fort Canning Park

Fort Canning Park

Fort Canning Park is another park conveniently located near the city. If you and your family are in the mood for some history lessons, head over to explore old forts and underground bunkers, and when you’re tired and hungry, lay a mat down, start unwrapping your delicious snacks, and fill that belly before trekking around again.

Singapore Botanic Gardens

Singapore Botanic Gardens

Surely, Singapore Botanic Gardens would make it into our list of top 10 ideal picnic spots. And while you’re making your way to Symphony Lake for the perfect picnic space, keep an eye out for its two beautiful resident swans.

St. John’s Island

St. John’s Island

If you are considering something further afield yet near enough for you to still make it back home in time before night falls, head off the coast of mainland Singapore—St. John’s Island. It is a mere 6.5km south from Singapore so just catch a ferry from Marina South pier and you’ll be there relaxing in no time.
