Woman Suspected To Be A COVID-19 Carrier Took Son To Sparkletots Pre-school In Bedok

Despite being given a medical certificate to stay home, the woman still walked her son to preschool.

A woman is facing accusations of breaching medical protocols after she walked her son to and from Sparkletots pre-school in Bedok. She did so while she was suspected to be a COVID carrier.

As per new reports by CNA, Michelle Foo Shi Ching, 24, has now been handed down five charges under the Infectious Diseases Act on Thursday (Apr 29). She could potentially go to jail for endangering lives.

The Malaysian national is a permanent resident of Singapore. She is accused of risking and exposing other people to COVID-19 by walking from her home in Bedok North Street 2 to PCF Sparkletots located at Fengshan Block 184, over four days.

Court documents that she she went to Temasek Medical Clinic on 14 July 2020, and was informed by a doctor that she had an upper respiratory tract infection. She was also issued a medical certificate requiring her to stay home for five days– from 14 July to 18 July 2020.

But even when suspected of being a Covid carrier, she still went out within these days. Foo allegedly walked from Block 138 Bedok North Street to pick up her son at preschool. Afterwards, she walked back to her home in Bedok North Street 2.

Allegedly, she walked with her son to preschool again the day after and even picked him up from Sparkletots.

Reports say that she repeated this pattern on 16 and 17 July, and even took a Grab car from her home to Block 81, MacPherson Lane. Then after she took another Grab car to Great World City shopping mall. At Golden Village Grand, she also watched a movie and came back home via cab.

Foo also went out on 18 July where she allegedly took a Grab car again from her home to Macpherson Lane.

Woman Suspected To Be Covid Carrier Set To Plead Guilty And Could Be Jailed

The 24-year-old Michelle Foo Shi Ching who was handed five charges under the Infectious Diseases Act is set to plead guilty next month.

If convicted, she can be jailed up to six months for exposing others to the risk of infection. She can also be fined up to S$10,000 per charge if she is a first-time offender. She can face double the jail term and fine if found to not be a first-time.

At times like these–as experts also recommend– exercise caution and be mindful of those around you when out in public. Especially if you parents or have elderly folk at home. Let us all take on the responsibility to follow safety measures to avoid any spread of COVID-19.
