Will people like the new Mickey?
Walt Disney’s going to tweak Mickey a bit. Yes, Mickey Mouse! The pop character superstar. According to an article in New York Times, Walt Disney executives are taking this dangerous and risky step as they want the most durable and famous character in history to be relevant to today’s generation. Fans will get a glimpse of the re-engineered Mickey in the second half of this year in a new video game called Epic Mickey. Walt Disney revealed that his wholesome image would become cunning and catankerous but still heroic. Creative director Warren Spector assures everyone that Mickey’s new image will not become evil nor will it kill people. But neither will he be bland as he will have the ability to be naughty. Mr Spector further revealed that when players are playing as Mickey, they can misbehave and become a little bit selfish. These are just a few of the tweaks that Disney’s Board of Directors are suggesting: Let’s have Minnie appear on “The Real Housewives of Disney,” along with Cinderella, Snow White, and the Little Mermaid. Then Minnie could sneer, “Do any of you bitches not have a gay husband?” (This clearly is not for kids.) When Mickey finally hits rock bottom and runs into the church, seeking redemption, let’s have all the female parishioners instantly jump up onto the pews, pointing and shrieking, “Kill it! Kill it! ” (Can you imagine Mickey saying “Kill it!”?) Based on what they’ve revealed, I don’t think I’m going to like the new Mickey. And I don’t think that it’s good to let kids play this Epic Mickey. I’m really bothered that Mickey’s going to be cunning, selfish and naughty. This is really risky, very risky for Walt Disney. What do you guys think?
