When Is It Time to Buy a Family Car?

When Is It Time to Buy a Family Car?

Do you really need a family car in Singapore? We try to get to the answer, here.

When Aaron’s wife was six months pregnant, he was surprised to find himself buying a car. Like many Singaporeans, he was perfectly satisfied with public transport, and he perceived buying a car to be a luxury. But with a new baby on the way, Aaron and his partner May found that their needs were changing. Their new perspective was simple: if you have a family, buying a car – and all the comfort, convenience and freedom that comes with it – just makes sense. best time to buy a car

“It all clicked into place when I realised that I was going to have a family of my own,” Aaron shares. “I want to protect my family, and I want to give them what they want and need. Getting a car of our own helped me do that and that sealed the deal.”

If they sound familiar to you, maybe it’s time you got your own family car. Here are some of the benefits that owning a family car can give every Singaporean family.

Safety Comes First

While getting a cab or booking a private-hire car might be fine for couples, the challenges of safety are different for families. For starters, kids need child car seats! You’ll have to lug your own with you – or book for a rarer family-friendly option. Next, even if you get that sorted, you never know what kind of driver you’ll get. Sometimes you’ll get a cab uncle with good driving skills, but do you really want to risk the lives of your kids with the occasional bad driver? Or catch a nasty virus from previous passengers or other commuters on the train?

With you firmly in the driver’s seat, you are in control of your family’s safety on the road.

For Aaron’s family, safety was their first consideration. Eventually, they chose to buy a Peugeot 3008 1.2 SUV. On the safety front, it comes with:

  • Six Airbags: Having these airbags means the whole family is protected.
  • Lane Departure Warning System: This system intelligently monitors lane markings on the road and warns you if you are drifting out of lane.
  • Blind Spot Monitoring System*: Thanks to ultrasound sensors, the Peugeot 3008 has a wider field of vision than the human driver and will warn you if a vehicle is in your blind spot.

Space Is Your Priority

Little children travel with a shocking amount of baggage – even if they’re just going to the mall. There are strollers and diaper bags, and oftentimes they come with nannies in tow, or a grandparent or two. Add the universal truth that children tend to fall asleep in cars, and you’ll find them taking up the entire back seat on their own!

Bigger kids don’t grow out of this need for space either. They have school bags, lunch boxes, musical instruments and sports gear – their list of accessories seems never-ending!

Buying an SUV is a great solution that gives you the space of a minivan and high performance on the road. The Peugeot 5008 1.6 PureTech SUV is a 7-seater with room to spare (it even comes with a panoramic sunroof!*) Space is the luxury that you’ll have lots of with the Peugeot 5008 SUV. With its modular layout, you can seat seven adults, and the three second-row passenger seats are fully adjustable. Or if hauling stuff is more important for your family, you can opt for an extra spacious boot (which you can open like magic by passing a foot under the rear bumper*). There’s even an option to fold the rear passenger seats down, allowing you to accommodate loads up to 3.2 metres long.

With plenty of space, your family car is your home away from home.

Freedom Reinvented

Feel the urge to go on a cross-island trip? You can be spontaneous when you have a family car. Have to go somewhere with your kids? Say goodbye to the hassles of commuting. Buying a family car is ultimately about the options and experiences it makes possible – the freedom it gives every member of your family.

“Buying a family car proved to be transformative for us,” says Aaron. “It’s not just a luxury, though it does feel luxurious. I think of it as a necessity for the kind of life we want to lead. I can’t imagine life without it!”

So important in designing the 3008’s and 5008’s driving experience is making these SUVs a joy to drive. With Peugeot’s PureTech EAT8 petrol engines, they achieve the perfect balance between comfort and road handling. All of this translates to supreme driving pleasure —  a surprising treat for your family’s designated driver.  And whichever Peugeot model you choose, the enhanced 3008 and 5008 SUVs mean you can have both power and fuel efficiency.

Whether you’re accessing vehicle information or mirroring apps on your phone, this intuitive display will soon become an essential part of your life on the road.
