10 ways your baby bump can be super useful

15 Jan, 2016

Here's our light-hearted take on why that bump that has been causing you a small amount of grief for the past few months has tons of awesome uses!

As you make your way into your second and third trimester of pregnancy, and you balloon out, you might feel clumsy and lousy because of the increasingly heavy ball you are carrying in front of you.

But did you know that your baby bump has tonnes of awesome uses? Here's a tongue-in-cheek list of just ten of our favourite uses the bump has.

Love your bump more today.

Balancing snacks

Balancing snacks

Have you ever gotten tired holding that bowl of popcorn as you are vegetating on the couch, but yet the coffee table is just too far? The bump is great for balancing bowls of snacks as Carrie Underwood shows here.

It’s just the right distance from your mouth and you can totally sloth out while the bump does all that tiresome snack-holding work for you.

Being waited on hand and foot (literally)

Being waited on hand and foot (literally)

You are so big you can’t bend over, surely you can’t be expected to cut your toenails? Oh, since we are at it, we might as well go for a foot massage and pedicure.

Always getting premium seats on public transport

Always getting premium seats on public transport

Gently use your bump to nudge the (pretend) sleeping commuter’s face if no one gets up automatically to offer you a seat. Failing that, cradle said bump and groan piteously. Very useful during peak periods especially because these seats are usually located near the entrance and exit and you don’t have to jostle your way through.

Table and bump

Very useful for when you accidentally drop something small, simply step forward to close the gap between your bump and the edge of the table. Or if you have a toddler whose motor skills are rudimentary, the bump comes in wonderful good use for catching grapes, pencils and such.

Being totally fashionable

If celebrity photos are anything to go by, having and showing off the bump is totally trendy and stylish. Up your cool factor by putting it up on display with stylish maternity wear or a hot bikini.

The only period in your life you can have half naked pics of you preening in filmsy white cloths without looking totally daft. Feel free to post it on facebook even.

Unleashing your creative energies

Always wanted a tatt but never quite mustered up the courage for it? Put the bump to good use with these awesome designs of belly art.

Stopping the gossip

Stopping the gossip

If you have heard whispers or seen the wondering looks, but people are just too polite to ask in case it was just some extra pounds, the bump is great for putting speculations to rest. Now life can return to normal and you can accept the congratulations gracefully!

Getting out of unpleasant tasks

Getting out of unpleasant tasks

Tasked with an office errand? Cradle bump, nod bravely and grimace as you walk, we guarantee it will quickly be re-delegated. On the home front, do the same when hubby is nearby and you are doing your daily vacuuming or whatever chores you detest. If you can’t bend, you can’t do anything. Especially not the dishes, right?

Caressing and kissing

Caressing and kissing

The bestest ever thing that the bump is for is to shower loads and loads of love before the little bub makes his first appearance. It’s the first sign beyond the blurry images and your missed periods that he actually exists and that it won’t be long before you get to see him. So kiss it, sing to it and touch it!
