Voyage night festival

Journey through the night as the Night Festival 2011 returns to Singapore for the 4th year running. Be mesmerized by the sights and sounds as Bras Basah Precinct is transformed into a maritime haven, bridging cultural melting pots as a homage to our forefathers that laid the foundation of modern Singapore. Its only happening on 26-27 August, and 2-3 September.

The media preview was a glimpse of some of the exciting performances that will be happening. Here are a few highlights of the Voyage Night Festival 2011:

Be entertained by the wonderful melodic sound of vocals, music and dances of delight, as the 9-men band, The Shin, presents Black Sea Fire. The Shin, means “coming home” in the Gregorian language. This musical performance explores the traditions from 6 countries – Georgia, Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and the Ukraine. Be mesmerized by the cheerful sounds and soulful vocals, along with fast moving, energetic dance steps.

Cake Theatrical Productions presents – The Shape of a Dream, a roving performance which begins from Singapore Management University U-Square to Campus Green and ending at Stamford Green. The vibrant costumes, energetic dance moves are attention grabbing, with fantastical creatures.

A must attend performance would be the Corazon de Angeles in Paradise (Heart of Angels) by Theater Tol. Performers are suspended in mid-air, thrilling the audience with song, dance, acrobats, and not to mention that the pyrotechnics are a visual feast for the eyes.

Another highlight would be the  Parking Mad (Le Parking en folie) display on the Front Lawn of Singapore Arts Museum (SAM) from  Friday, 26 Aug – Saturday, 27 Aug and the Front Lawn of National Museum Singapore (NMS) from Friday, 2 Sept – Saturday, 3 Sept.

Watch how these cars come to life, as the synchronized flashing light performance sets to capture attention of the young and old.

Apart from the festivities happening outdoors, visitors to the Nation Museum of Singapore, Singapore Art Museum, SAM at 8Q can enjoy free late night admission from 6 pm till 2 am on 26-27 August, and 2-3 September. However, do note that both The Pernanakan Museum and The Substation respective gallery will open till 2 am on 26-27August only.

Fret not as eateries and restaurants will be open till late during the Night Festival to sate the hungry and thirsty visitors. Do take note of the road closures and affected bus services will be diverted. Do wear comfortable clothing and footwear, as well as a bottle of water, and have a great time at Voyage Night Festival 2011.
