VIRAL: This mum's hilarious rant about modern parenting will have you in stitches

VIRAL: This mum's hilarious rant about modern parenting will have you in stitches

“In 2016, you don't really love your kids if you're not a paranoid mess”

Time and time again, Bunmi Laditan of The Honest Toddler has captured the trials and tribulations of today’s moms, and she’s done it again. The author of Toddlers Are A**holes (It’s Not Your Fault) took to Facebook earlier this week to vent about how modern parenting is absolutely ridiculous, and her post has gone viral, reports Us Weekly.

“I own two good bras but I’m ready to spend upwards of $100 on children’s vitamins”

After 45 frustrating minutes of vitamin shopping for her kids, Laditan could only lament about how she wished she was parenting back in the good old days when “all you had to do to be considered a good mom is to remember to wind down the windows when you smoke in the car.”

She continued:

“I own two good bras but I’m ready to spend upwards of $100 on children’s vitamins, probiotics (these look like finely pressed cocaine and tastes like nothing but if you don’t buy it your child dies), and supplements. Do you know what vitamins I had growing up? NONE. DAYLIGHT WAS MY VITAMIN. Occasionally, once a year tops, my mom would get us those chalky Flinstones vitamins that looked liked kidney stones but we’d only have to eat them for a few days before she lost interest in our health.”

On the next page: read how other moms reacted to Laditan’s hilarious post.

Laditan’s rant has resonated with moms around the world, and as of this writing, the post has over 119,000 likes, over 13,000 comments, and has been shared over 74,000 times.

“I spent hours and hours on the internet obsessing over baby crib mattresses and wall paint that don’t release toxic fumes,” one commenter wrote. “I was just sure my kid was gonna die of SIDS if I picked the wrong thing. My anxiety did not help the situation at all.”

“I’m 60 now and I’m here to tell you it all works out,” another said. “Step away from the interwebs and just give the kids a hug and a kiss. Repeat 3 times daily. That’s all the vitamins they need.”

“Nothing about modern parenting is simple and it irritates me”

It’s no wonder that Laditan’s post has struck a nerve with so many mums—parents today are faced with more stress than ever. The thousands of mummy blogs, parenting resources, and parenting movements are helpful, sure. But with so many (often conflicting) opinions and words of advice, parents nowadays are more informed, yet also more confused. And, as Laditan adds, crazy judgmental as well.

“I’ve seen the way some parents look at me when I give my son a juice box at the park,” she writes. “It’s juice, not Red Bull or margarita mix so calm down. When I was a kid I lived on Tampico. That’s orange juice for poor people. It’s sold by the gallon, is thickened with puréed welfare checks, comes in three colors (government-cheese orange, about-to-start-selling-blood-plasma red, and I-can’t-afford-these-kids-shoulda-pulled-out blue). My parents bought this fruit-free juice with food stamps and despite my ongoing mental problems, I’m fine.”

Mums and dads, it’s high time that we cut ourselves some slack and stop worrying about every tiny thing. Not getting your kids the “right” kind of vitamin isn’t going to kill them. Neither is buying the wrong kind of talcum powder. Take care of yourself. Feed your kids. Clothe them. Love them. Do what’s best for you and your family, and if anyone makes you feel bad about the way you parent, show them the door.
