Unbelievable! Man, 49, Fined for Dangerous Firecracker Prank in Jurong West Playground

At a Jurong West playground, a peaceful sunny day turned into a horrifying event when Ramdan Bujan, a 49-year-old Singaporean man, cruelly threw a firecracker at three unsuspecting children.

This malicious act forever changed their lives and filled them with terror. Initially seen as a simple act of mischief, it quickly turned into a terrifying experience that left the young victims feeling overwhelmed and scared.

The loud explosion of a firecracker scared the children, aged between nine and ten. They quickly ran off and searched for an adult passerby to seek help.

Investigation Unveils the Culprit of Jurong West Playground Prankster

Furthermore, authorities uncovered the shocking truth behind this alarming incident through an examination of court documents. Subsequently, it emerged that Ramdan’s ill-conceived act occurred on July 28, 2022, near the HDB block in Jurong West where he lived.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, one of the children, who happened to be present, observed Ramdan’s suspicious behaviour and witnessed him stealthily approaching a nearby lift lobby while concealing a fiery object.

Jurong West Playground Prankster’s Claim Backfires

Doubts arose regarding Ramdan’s intentions when he admitted to hurling the firecracker, despite being fully aware of its illegal nature. He made an attempt to justify his actions by labelling them as a mere “joke.”

The gravity of the situation was further intensified by the availability of police camera footage, which documented Ramdan leaving his residence while clutching the firecracker and subsequently returning home with a smirk on his face. The footage provided a distressing visual account of the children’s panicked attempts to escape, highlighting the profound impact of Ramdan’s actions on their sense of safety and well-being.

Legal Proceedings and Defense Arguments

During the legal proceedings, Ramdan confessed to discharging fireworks, with the court considering an additional charge of recklessly endangering the safety of others.

Additionally, the lawyer underscored the firecracker’s small size and the fact that no harm ensued from the incident, presenting Ramdan as a remorseful first-time offender.

Furthermore, this unsettling incident serves as a reminder to parents and communities to stay vigilant and safeguard children’s safety at playgrounds. Reckless actions can have enduring repercussions, emphasizing the importance of creating an environment where children can play without fear.
