The teens were pronounced dead due to unnatural causes.

Two teenage girls were recently found dead at the foot of an HDB block in Toa Payoh on Saturday (3 April). The police were alerted of the incident at around 10pm at night.

They were found lying motionless on the ground at Block 143 Lorong 2 when the officers arrived at the scene.

The two girls, aged 15 and 16 years old, were pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic. The Singapore Police Force said they were alerted of the death by unnatural causes.

TODAY reported that the girls apparently fell from the 26th floor. It was also said that the girls were reportedly less than a metre apart from each other when found.

The SPF says they do not suspect any foul play regarding their deaths. Investigations are still ongoing.

The teens were found to be wearing identical bracelets that were taken by the police for further investigations. According to Lian Wanbao, the girls were said to be close friends.

Their bodies were first covered with white sheets, then eventually in a blue tent. The area next to the basketball court was also cordoned off by the time reporters came to the scene.

Sources have also seen two middle-aged women waiting with the police at the sealed-off area.

Keeping A Close Eye On Our Children

While this news has come as shocker to everybody, especially to parents of tweens and teens; it is also a rude reminder to why parents must keep a close watch on young children.

It’s not enough to parent. Instead, its best to befriend your growing child. Do not distance yourself from your child to the point that they shut themselves out not only from you but everyone else. Here are a few ways in how you can maintain a close relationship with your child.

1. Aid their ever-changing needs. As your child grows up to a teen, you may find that they desire more independence and freedom. This shouldn’t discourage keeping a close relationship with them. Instead, acknowledge what they are feeling and respect their needs as well as their wants.

2. Be open to the experiences or struggles they’d like to share with you. Just as they are learning everything else in their life growing up, make sure to be there when it comes to dealing with difficulties and challenges that they may be going through.

3. Patience is key. Try to keep your lectures at bay when your child misbehaves or doesn’t listen to you. Instead, be patient with them. Give them time to sort out their emotions and calm down before talking to them.

4. Spend as much time with your child as you can. What better way to bond with your child than spending some regular one-on-one time together. You might even find out more about each other’s interests and be updated on their recent likes and dislikes.

5. Learn to forgive. It’s only natural to go through a few bumpy roads in adulthood and you’re bound to experience at least a bit of arguing with your child. This is why forgiveness is an essential part of any relationship knowing when to apologise when you’re in the wrong.
