Top 10 dirty little mummy secret confessions

28 Apr, 2014
Mummy wants me-time

Mummy wants me-time

All you mums reading this know that me-time, once kids come along, is practically non-existent and remains a distant, but fondly remembered memory.

The TODAYMoms survey found it’s this pre-baby alone-time that mums miss the most. Out of everything they miss from before kids—a better body, more disposable income, time with friends—23% of moms most crave alone time - even from their husbands!

Mummy would do things differently if given the chance

Mummy would do things differently if given the chance

If you ask any mum if she's happy with how things are for her, it's highly likely she will say 'yes'. But secretly, mums are wishing they had different partners, better jobs and even no kids!

Almost 23% of mums in the survey said they would choose another spouse, 21% wished they had more kids, and 19% would pick a more flexible career path. And 4% questioned the decision to have children altogether!

One mum said: "Although I love my children and wouldn't trade them for the world, there are times when I wish I could have a ‘do-over’ and maybe start having them later in life. I do miss being able to do things spontaneously and only having to worry about myself."

Mummy medicates her kids

Mummy medicates her kids

Have you ever been tempted to slip your child some drowsiness-inducing cough medicine before a long trip? I mean, how great would it be if your child slept peacefully right through a long flight so you could avoid those nasty glares from other passengers when your kids plays up?

You're not alone. According to the survey results, almost 18% of moms medicate their child before a long car trip or a flight. Almost 8% of moms even said they sometimes do it on a regular night at home, just to get some peace and quiet!

Mummy's a bit weird about breastfeeding

Mummy's a bit weird about breastfeeding

Society sends us mixed messages about breastfeeding and according to the survey, it looks like mums have internalised these messages.

18% of moms say they judge others for choosing not to breastfeed. And a massive 42% confess they get a bit weird over extended breastfeeding - so they do it, but they don't always share this information with others.

"I breastfed my daughter until after she was 2, but my mom and husband are the only ones that know that," one respondent wrote.

Mummy uses her kids as an excuse

Mummy uses her kids as an excuse

We've all done it at some point or another - we get invited to an event we don't really want to go to and use our kids to get out of it.

You can stop feeling bad about it. Kids provide a convenient excuse to bow out of things, according to almost 84% of moms surveyed. In fact, 45% reported using their kids to get out of social obligations around once a month.

One mom even confessed to using her kids to get out of sex with her husband!

Mummy has a favourite child

Mummy has a favourite child

We all swear we love our kids equally. But almost 14% of mums in the survey confessed they had a favourite child.

As one mom said: "I love all my kids equally, but I *enjoy* one of them more. I try to not let it show in my behavior with all my kids, but I fear it may seep out."

Mummy judges other mums

Mummy judges other mums

Have you ever been chatting to another mum about your kids or parenting style and felt she was judging you? You weren't just imagining it.

88% of mums in the survey admitted to judging other mums. The behaviours most likely to be judged are these: bratty kids, (over) weight, and eating issues, such as kids eating junk food.

Mummy gets distracted by technology

Mummy gets distracted by technology

The good news is that only 5% of mums said their child got hurt because they (the mums) were distracted by their smartphone. But 18% have had close calls.

Great eye-opener mums - it's best to keep your eyes on your kid and not your phone!

Mummy sends her (mildly) sick kid to school

Mummy sends her (mildly) sick kid to school

Ok, we're not talking about serious illness here. But if Junior's complaining of a tummy-ache and he hasn't thrown up (yet!)....and mummy has an important meeting to go to, it's highly likely she'll send her child to school anyway!

49% of the survey's working mom respondents would send their mildly ill child to school or daycare and hope for the best!

Mummy picks sleep over sex

Mummy picks sleep over sex

Let's face it, sleep is one of the things us mums miss the most. And when asked if they would choose deep sleep or mind-blowing sex once the kids are in bed...you guessed it, most mums replied 'sleep' - 53% of them to be precise.

As one mum said: "Everyone tells you to enjoy the time you have with your kids while they are young, but sometimes I am just so tired and worn out, enjoying them just feels like more work!"
