Top 10 surprises for new parents

12 Feb, 2013

Congratulations on your new baby and welcome to the parenthood club! With the arrival of your precious angel, you will finally get to experience firsthand all the amazing and sometimes scary moments that involves having a baby. No matter how ready you might be for the arrival of your baby, you should brace yourself for more surprises that would await you. Nasty or not, all these events are part of raising a baby.

Diaper changing machine

Diaper changing machine

Most new parents cringe at the thought of having to change dirty diaper. But believe it or not, they often realize that their own baby’s poop is not that bad. Call this favouritism, if you will. The stink and the sight of poop in front of them won’t make them gag just because it was from their own baby.
Breastfeeding jealousy

Breastfeeding jealousy

Breastfeeding jealousy – Most new daddies feel a bit jealous about the time their baby spends breastfeeding. They won’t admit it but these men feel like their most favorite possessions had been snatched away from them, albeit only temporarily.
The man with the many faces (and voices)

The man with the many faces (and voices)

Even the most formal of men would succumb to making faces and imitating a plethora of voices when in the midst of their own child. This would come as a shock to some men who aren’t used to acting goofy but they just can’t stop. The reward of laughter from their kid is just priceless.
Juggling act

Juggling act

Men aren’t used to doing too many physical things all at once. But when they become Daddies, their super powers just come out. Now, they can carry and soothe their child while they prepare some milk formula and talk on speaker phone and other multi-tasking parenting abilities.
Positive relationship changes

Positive relationship changes

Because they have seen all the pain, difficulties and hardships that are involved during pregnant and child delivery, most new daddies now look up to the strength and endurance of wives. The levels of respect that they have to their wives have grown several notches higher and would continue to grow as their child does too.
Feel the pressure

Feel the pressure

Women haven’t felt stress and pressure yet until they would become a mother. All the anxiety and worries would be felt a hundred-fold just by holding a small, delicate baby whose life is literally in your hands. Just the thought of making one careless action or wrong decision is enough to make anyone super stressed. No matter how many parenting books a new mommy has read, she would never be truly prepared.
Dependency isn’t bad

Dependency isn’t bad

If being independent is one of a new mummy’s strong trait, she should learn to be a bit dependent from now on. Asking for help from parents, friends and other relatives when it comes to raising a baby wouldn’t hurt. While their baby is being watching by Grandma or Auntie, mummies could take the opportunity to squeeze in a nap, do pending chores or go for a quick grocery shopping.
Sleep Vs. Sex

Sleep Vs. Sex

In the past, women would always say that it’s better to be busy the whole night through than just be sleeping. But new mummies are greatly torn about sex and sleep. As soon as their babies are asleep, they constantly debate internally about whether to get it on with their husband or just get some sleep. Unfortunately for the men, sleep always wins in the first few months of the baby’s arrival.
Double of everything

Double of everything

The emotions of new parents are on a high level as every feeling seems to multiply. The joy and pride of every accomplishment of their baby will fill their hearts immensely. However, this is applicable to the negatives as well. If their babies are in pain and hurt, the feeling of despair doubles as well. Aside from the emotions, the financial expenses would obviously double (or even triple) as well.
Infinite love

Infinite love

Finally experiencing unconditional love is such a surprise to mothers because they just can’t believe that they would love someone they haven’t seen before. It’s like as soon as they have known that they are pregnant, the floodgates of love opened and showered the yet unborn child. A parent’s love to her child would continue to grow and grow without relenting even until they would leave this world.
