How do you keep a clean home when there are kids making a mess round the clock? Here are 5 tips to help you out!

5 tips on keeping your home clean... even with kids!

Any parent knows that kids create clutter like nobody’s business and it’s enough to drive anyone nuts. Helpling, the leading online cleaning platform that matches cleaners to homeowners, has come up with a few tips to help you achieve that organized, clean home -- despite living with kids.
1. Wake up before your children

1. Wake up before your children

The first tip is probably the most important tip to get your day started. This gives you more time to get yourself together and some alone time before your kids are up. This tip has been tried and proven by many mothers out there where they claim they have more time and energy to keep up with laundry dishes and kids’ mess that accumulate throughout the day.
2. Have a daily routine

2. Have a daily routine

Try to have a pattern to your daily activities such as allocate half an hour to cleaning. This way, your kids will know that mummy is busy cleaning and they will not expect you to entertain them. Some mothers find cleaning therapeutic and calming, hence, 30 minutes of cleaning doesn’t sound that bad after all!
3. Involve the kids

3. Involve the kids

Toddlers love to help out and often feel such pride in their accomplishments, furthermore they learn and cultivate good habits at a young age, so make sure you start teaching them early. So, instead of us always having to stress about the messes they make, we just have to ask them to help in working to have a clean home. This way, the kids are doing the work cleaning up, not us.

On days where cleaning is driving you crazy, why not get them involved by organising a cleaning contest? Assign each child a room to clean from top to bottom and reward whoever cleaned the room the most thorough!

4. Store in bins or baskets

4. Store in bins or baskets

Bins are a great way of keeping toys under control. The key is to make it easy for both your kids and you to toss their stuff into the bins, making cleanup simple. Label each bin with the different type of toys such as stuffed animals, blocks and so on. If your child can’t read, use picture labels.
5. Set limits on toys

5. Set limits on toys

Limit the number of toys you buy for your kids. This makes cleaning a lot faster and easier since there is not much of a mess to clean up in the first place. The less toys you buy, the easier it is to clean up. This will help keep on top of cleaning it up every day.

For those of you with too many toys at home, sit down with your kids and set aside a few to keep and which to give away.

With a little perseverance, endurance and good planning, maintaining a clean home with kids is so simple! It isn’t easy, but it’s possible! But if you need help cleaning? Book a cleaner with Helpling and we will help you keep your house tidy, clean, and organized!
