Time to unwind, mums. Here are 6 ways to catch a break!

Time to unwind, mums. Here are 6 ways to catch a break!

Whether you're a stay-at-home mum or a working mum, your days can definitely get overwhelming with your load of responsibilities. You should take a breather every now and then, and here's how you do it.

#1 Go for a walk

go for a walk

One of the best ways to take a break is to go out and take a breath of fresh air. Rain or shine, try not to stay indoors working or doing chores for hours on end, lest you develop a cabin fever. You can have your walk alone, with your partner, with your child, or anyone you want as a company. Just get some gentle exercise going.

#2 Do nothing

do nothing

There is literally a site that forces you to do nothing but listen to the sounds of the ocean for two whole minutes. And if you go to Calm, there are meditation sessions for longer intervals from five to 20 minutes.

Napping helps to increase mental alertness and productivity, so taking power naps are advisable too. 30 minutes should be enough to boost your energy. Even if you cannot fall asleep, just lie down and rest—perhaps while listening to some of your favourite songs?

#3 Play with your pet

play with your pet

This is such a fun way to de-stress and give your pet its much needed attention as well. If you have a pet dog, take it out for a walk and voilà! You’re killing two birds (tip #1 and tip #3) with one stone!

#4 Skincare routine

Take joy in carrying out your daily skincare regime—cleansing, toning, moisturising, and even squeeze in a mask if you have a lot of extra time to spare. Use this as a time to chill and pamper yourself after a long day because you definitely deserve it!

#5 Indulge in a guilty pleasure

indulge in a guilty pleasure

Do you secretly find it fun to watch mindless, trashy reality TV? Or read gossips in the pages of a tabloid magazine? No shame in that! As long as you are not doing it excessively, this can be a really good way to take your mind off things.

#6 Read

read

Nothing quite beats snuggling up all cosy with a good read. It can be a fiction, a self-help book, a biography—as long as you enjoy it! If you don’t have the luxury of freeing up too much of your time, this can also be your daily commute activity, instead of scrolling through your Facebook or Instagram feed and being on some kind of tech gadget all the time.
