What is parenting?

“Ensuring your kids go the 'right way'.”

“Beating the crap out of your kids!”

“Loving your child and not expecting anything in return”

“Making your kids do things that you don't want to...like getting the remote”

Depending on who you ask, the answers you receive will be extremely different from the next. From the four answers above, two were by people who are still single, and I am sure we don't have to tell you which two! But what exactly is parenting and what is the right approach to it?

Parenting is the care and upbringing of a child and it comprises all the tasks involved in raising a child to an independent adult is the definition given by Webster's Online Dictionary. We’ve all heard of horror stories of how at times correction has crossed from the ‘discipline zone’ and escalated into the ‘abuse zone’. A quick slap, a raised voice or a cold stare is enough to check most children and put them back in line. However, is that really the right approach to parenting?

This week on theAsianparent.com, we take a look at the mystic approach to parenting, and how you can foster a closer relationship with your kids. For our parents-to-be readers, we take a look at natural baby gender selection and give you tips on how to conceive a child of your preferred sex. We also talk about monitoring of ovulation and IUI.
