The Straits Times Celebrates 180th Anniversary with Exhibition, "Heartbeats And Headlines"

To commemorate its 180th anniversary, The Straits Times is launching a traveling exhibition titled Heartbeats And Headlines: 180 Years Of Telling The Singapore Story. This multimedia showcase chronicles the evolution of journalism in Singapore through the lens of ST’s historic coverage and modern transformation.

Open to the public starting Saturday, July 12, 2025, the exhibition promises an immersive experience for readers of all ages, combining history, interactivity, and fun at iconic venues across the island.

An Exhibition Celebrating Journalism and Nationhood

The Strait Times 180th Anniversary

Since its founding in 1845, The Straits Times has played a central role in documenting Singapore’s journey—from colonial beginnings to a vibrant global city. This exhibition explores ST’s evolution from a print publication to a digital-first newsroom, while spotlighting its commitment to informing and engaging generations of readers.

Engaging Features for All Ages

The Strait Times 180th Anniversary

Blending history, education, and interactivity, the exhibition offers something for everyone—from lifelong readers to curious children discovering journalism for the first time.

Interactive Experiences and Editorial Insights

Attendees will be treated to interactive stations that simulate newsroom decisions, front-page creation, and headline curation. Short films and archival visuals will take visitors behind the scenes, highlighting key events and editorial turning points that have shaped the nation.

“Reporter-in-Training Quest” for Kids

Children can enjoy a specially designed quest that allows them to step into the shoes of junior reporters. They’ll learn how editors select news stories, explore Singapore’s past through historical visuals, and earn a reward upon completing the activity.

Take-Home Keepsakes

Visitors who complete selected challenges can receive a complimentary gift, adding a personal memento to their experience.
