The Princess and the Pea: A Year-End Family Adventure!

Get ready for a modern twist on The Princess and the Pea! Action, music, and fun await your family at this must-see musical. Extra shows added—book now!

Looking for a fun, family-friendly activity to end 2024 with a bang? The Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT) has you covered with their latest hit musical, The Princess and the Pea! Running from 23 October 2024 at the KC Arts Centre – Home of SRT, this re-imagined fairy tale has been such a hit that they’ve added extra shows until 30 November due to popular demand. Here’s why you and your family won’t want to miss this ultimate year-end treat.

A Twist on a Classic Tale

You might think you know the story of The Princess and the Pea—a dainty princess proving her royal status by being sensitive enough to feel a pea under layers of mattresses. But in this new version, get ready for a fun surprise! When a dishevelled princess arrives at the palace, the Queen decides to put her through the famous Pea Test to see if she’s princess material for her lovesick son.

But this princess is far from your typical fairytale character. Instead of tossing and turning on her mountain of mattresses, she’s out fighting dragons, defeating baddies, and rewriting the rules of what it means to be a princess. This is a heroine your kids will want to root for—a bold, brave, and ninja-fighting princess who’s not afraid to challenge the old “happily ever after.”

A Battle Against the PEA… and Prejudices!

At the heart of this tale is not just a simple pea under the mattress. In this version, the pea is a rogue computer—yes, you read that right—who doesn’t believe princesses can be heroes? This modern twist adds humour and excitement as the princess, the prince (who loves inventing gadgets), and the queen (a strong, supportive character) team up to confront their green, stubborn foe.

Through this story, kids will learn the important lesson of not judging others based on appearances and how everyone, regardless of how they look or where they come from, can create their own version of “happily ever after.” It’s the perfect message to wrap up the year and a reminder that we can all be heroes in our own way.

Music, Magic, and Non-Stop Fun!

The Princess and the Pea isn’t just a story—it’s an action-packed adventure filled with catchy songs, vibrant characters, and laugh-out-loud moments. The music, composed by Holly Mallett, will have you and your family humming along, while the dynamic choreography by Gaby Rae brings the story to life on stage. From thrilling battles to heartwarming scenes, the energy never stops, making this show an unforgettable experience for kids and adults alike.
