Teens watch a shocking amount of porn

Teens watch a shocking amount of porn

While it may not surprise you that teens watch porn, the frequency of it just might! Read this article to find out how often teens watch porn!

teens are watching porn

Read on to find out how many teens are watching porn according to a survey.

Shocking statistics from a recent survey conducted has confirmed our suspicions. Teens are watching porn! Except that they are probably watching it a lot more frequently than you probably expect! It appears that raging teenage hormones coupled with the power of the internet is a recipe for disaster.

Teens are watching porn!

According to the survey conducted by the charity Childline, the results show that 75% of the 800 participants aged between 13 and 17 have watched porn before. What was surprising was that watching porn has become somewhat a routine for many teenage boys. More than half (56%) of the boys polled admitted to watching porn 2 to 3 times every week. What was even more worrying was that one in eight boys loved porn so much that they viewed porn multiple times a day!

Girls watch porn too

Boys aren’t the only ones watching porn. Girls watch porn as well, although their behaviour and reaction to it differs from boys. The survey reveals that while girls are just as likely to have watched porn before, they are usually disgusted or upset by it and their frequency of watching porn is a lot less than that of boys.

And kids!

While the survey has revealed that the majority of teens are watching porn, they aren’t the only ones. Another alarming statistic from the survey is that two-thirds of kids aged between 11 and 13 have seen porn before. However, the survey also states that kids don’t watch porn as often as the teenagers.

Is it time to restrict the internet?

Now that we know that the majority of male teens are watching porn regularly, the logical question to ask ourselves is how do we curb this problem? Pornography often corrupts the viewers’ perception of sex. Pornography also often treats women in a degrading manner. Being exposed to pornography at such a young age is definitely a cause for concern.

Top 3 tips for parents

Before you freak out that teens are watching porn, there are some tips available which might help you out with this issue.

1. Educate

Do not condemn your kids if you find out that they are watching porn. It is natural for teenagers to be curious about such matters. The important thing is to educate them that porn is not an accurate depiction of sex and remind your children about the harmful effects of watching porn.

2. Keep the computer in the living room

By placing the laptop or computer in the living room, your children would be less likely to view porn.

3. Install software to block porn

There are numerous programs in the market which parents to block unsavoury websites. As the survey found that 75% of teens come across online porn accidentally, censoring the internet can lessen the chance of teenagers stumbling upon porn by accident. However, the pervasive nature of the internet makes the effectiveness of this method questionable.

Were you surprised that the majority of teens are watching porn?
