After the five-minute breakfast break at 7am this morning, only 9 participants still contend to be the ultimate winner of the Subaru Impreza Challenge 2010. This year’s challenge has literally seen its fair share of blood (a woman unfortunately got a visit from “Aunt Flow”), sweat and tears.
Out of the 9 still standing, 3 are women and all 9 are from Team Singapore! The last remaining foreign delegate, from Thailand, was knocked out at around 7.45 this morning. While it’s been a torturous 66 hours, the spirit amongst the participants is still very high.
“It’s all mind over body at this stage. My hands are numb and my legs are swollen – but I’ve got my hands on the prize,” shares contestant number 163, Haresh Tilani, 26. For contestant 197, Indra Syamsul, the nights have been the worst, “At night, the music pipes down and after so many hours you end up hallucinating. I thought the car bonnet was an Ipod.”
Hallucinations are normal at the Subaru Impreza challenge. Paramedic, Grace who has been giving paramedical aid to the event for the past 9 years, shared “Some started seeing potato chips and some even saw their fingers as keyboards. We’ve also seen lots of back pains, dehydration and leg swelling cases”
