Deepak Chopra once wrote, “Meeting a stranger can be totally fleeting and meaningless, for example, unless you enter the individual’s world by finding out at least one thing that is meaningful to his or her life and exchange at lest one genuine feeling.”
For Ronja Wiedenbeck, this quote is particularly relevant. The five benevolent strangers she met after being recently hospitalized were far from a fleeting memory, and they certainly found something that is meaningful to her life.
Ronja Wiedenbeck, a mother of two, found herself in a tough situation. She had been diagnosed with ovarian cysts and was promptly checked into her nearest hospital. She was placed on pain medication and as a result found herself unable to produce acceptable milk for her 11-month-old son, Rio.
Rio isn’t much of a fan of bottled milk. As a result he refused to feed from the bottles of frozen breastmilk that Wiedenbeck had previously stored in their freezer at home. This presented quite a dilemma for Ronja. So, she decided to reach out to fellow moms through social media to solve her problems.
Specifically, Ronja sought assistance from the Facebook group Breastfeeding Yummy Mommies. The support group offered more help than Wiedenbeck knew how to handle. In fact, her post yielded over 1000 responses!
After filtering out the helpful responses, Ronja selected five volunteers. Three of which came to the hospital to feed baby Rio!
Wiedenbeck recovered from her ovarian cysts recently and is now off of her medication. She’s now safely able to breastfeed baby Rio, but she’ll never forget the kindness and generosity of the strangers to whom she reached out: “I am so thankful for these selfless caring mothers, and we will all have such a great bond and friendship from this,” Ronja told The Daily Mail.
Obviously, having someone breastfeeding your baby isn’t something you’d consider off the top of your head. Though, it’s nice to know that we live in a world that’s always willing to lend a helping hand, no matter the circumstance.
No mum wants to see a baby go unfed, no matter if it’s their own baby or not!
