“Overweight” kid gets harsh treatment by parents
A couple in the US are now facing charges of third-degree criminal mistreatment for intentionally starving their kids. According to Seattle PI, Brittainy and Samuel Labberton continuously forced their baby to lose weight. We mostly agree that being overly fat, of course, isn’t good, but this is a baby we’re talking about. And what was even worse was that the baby in the report wasn’t actually fat at all! Read on to judge for yourselves whether the parents are guilty or innocent.
The baby was underweight when it was born so health professionals gave strict instructions to the couple to take extra care of it and its diet, but they failed to stick to them. Due to their miscompliance, the baby girl was returned to the hospital two months after she was born, and a few months after, brought to the care of foster parents.
The couple has an older daughter, just over a year old, who they also forced to lose weight. To prevent their children from putting on any pounds, the couple would refuse to feed them for days at a time. Even while the baby bawled and the toddler begged for food, their mother would ignore their pleas. Brittainy revealed that she wanted her kids to be below the 5oth percentile in weight of the population, and unlike their father, who has a weight problem. She herself is emaciated, weighing only 90 lbs. at 5’2″.
It was later revealed that Brittainy had been diagnosed with post-partum depression with psychotic tendencies after she gave birth to her second child, but had been neglecting her medication. Samuel, however, said that he believed that they had done the right thing and did not feel any regret for how they treated their kids. If Brittainy was ill, what about her husband? How could he be a willing accomplice to such an inhumane act?
A lot of people commented that there should be laws preventing those who are unfit to become parents from breeding. What do you think of this couple? Have you ever encountered parents who did bizarre things to their kids?
