Staying connected with our children

Staying connected with our children

Find out how to stay connected with your children in today’s digital world.

Remember when you were at school and the only way to contact your parents was from a phone box or through a friend’s landline? Yep, you had to be at an exact point, at an exact place and at an exact time, just so you could get in touch with other people.

Nowadays though, the world of mobile technology means we can stay connected to all the people in our lives, all of the time — to our kids, our parents, our friends… to the entire world!

The reality is everyone seems to own a handphone these days. You could probably count on one hand the number of adults you know without a handphone.

But I’m not talking about just the adults. Let’s take a look at the kids too…

Kids and handphones

As parents, it’s important for us to be able to contact our children when we need to, anytime, anywhere. Whether they are in school, at a friend’s house or out and about by themselves, we need to be able to connect with them — and vice versa — as needed.

Last year, The Guardian newspaper reported on a UK study which states that one in ten children have a mobile phone by age 5. Similarly, a study reported on Yahoo Singapore concluded that 19% of kids aged 2 to 5 are smart enough to use one.

It’s almost certain then that our kids have the ability to use handphones — not to mention other devices and gadgets — if given the chance.

Kids as young as two know how to use a handphone so it is up to us to decide when to arm them with the technology.

However, it is up to us to decide when to arm them with the technology they’ll need so we can keep in touch with them.

So when the time is right, what kind of technology should you be investing in?

Your kid’s new BFF! The StarHub Happy Junior Pack

With StarHub’s Happy Junior Pack, kids can keep their number for life – even when they switch to a postpaid line.

Parents can also  reap the benefits of a prepaid line for their children:

  • Cost control. Parents are able to control the cost of the mobile phone bills and eliminate  “bill shock”.
  • Low usage and affordability. Kids won’t be using the phone that much so it is a much more economical option.
  • No age limitation. Kids have to be at least 15 years old to be able to sign up for a postpaid plan under their own names. With a prepaid number, parents can stay connected even with their younger kids.

So, are you excited to stay connected with your child — and strengthen the lifelong bond between you? Invest in the Happy Junior Pack — your kid’s new BFF (and possibly yours too) — today!
