Splat Paint House Opens Spin Paint House, An Art Jamming Studio

Kickstart your Spin Art journey with the kids at the brand new studio, Spin Paint House.

Splat Paint House has opened a new studio, Spin Paint House, focusing on Spin Art. Drawing inspiration from historic Spin Art artists like Damien Hirst, they pushed the concept further by building custom tables that are completely hand-powered.

The ergonomic tables allow for studio visitors to spin canvases at high speeds or slow it down, depending on the effect they would like to achieve. They also offer pendulums and swinging trapezes as tools to create art.

For kids shorter than 1m, there is also a custom-built spinning wheel to make it fun and safe for all ages.

The decision to stay away from motors, electricity or automation was intentional, to allow guests a space to connect with manual craftsmanship, something of a rarity these days.

That decision set the business back by 6 months, as the owners encountered many challenges in building the tables to what they envisioned. “Honestly we didn’t expect it would take even half as long, and it was painful as we had signed a lease, but I feel that it’s worth it now, when we see our guests being so in awe of the tables. I would have been different if it was just flicking a switch.”

Another Spin Art artist that rose to prolific fame is Callen Schaub, who treats his pieces like performative art and whose pieces can go for hundreds of thousands of dollars, including in NFT form. Recognizing that, each booth is equipped with a phone stand for studio guests to capture the entire process.

In line with their philosophy of accessible art, Spin Paint House now makes it possible for anyone to create amazing pieces of Spin Art with no artistic talent needed, and have a digital memory of the experience to keep.

Founder Andrea Lim explains: “I saw people coming in to Splat (Paint House) watching videos of Callen as an inspiration, but so much of Spin Art and Splat is about the experience too. My partner and I felt like we really needed a space dedicated to that.”

Packages are sold per pax, which include a 40x55cm canvas, 4 bottles of paint, 1 bottle of special paint, and access to the tables and tools.

Each booth is equipped with its own table and kids wheel, and is shared between 2 pax. This is to allow for natural safe distancing and reduce cross-mingling.

It also allows art jammers to let their creative juice flow freely in their private space. Bookings for a 2 pax package is priced at $119, and can be made for up to 5 pax for $275. A session lasts 1.5 hours.

Bookings can be made online and the studio is open from Wednesdays to Sundays.
