PCF Sparkletots Centre In Choa Chu Kang Closes After Two Students Test Positive For Covid-19

PCF Sparkletots centre in Choa Chu Kang closes after two students test positive for Covid-19. Here's what we know so far.

Two children from the same household tested positive for Covid-19, causing a PCF Sparkletots centre in Choa Chu Kang to close.

The rest of the children and staff who were recently in school with the affected cases are now placed on a leave of absence.

A letter to parents of the PCF Sparkletots centre in Choa Chu Kang–lead by executive principal Janica Ng–noted that all children and staff from Playgroup to Kindergarten 2 classes will be under leave of absence from 14 to 26 July.

PCF Sparkletots @ Brickland at Block 801 Keat Hong Close will be closed from Wednesday to Thursday. This step has been taken for deep cleaning and disinfection of the premises and equipments. Ms Ng also told the media that contact tracing is currently underway.

How did the school find out?

On Wednesday evening, the Ministry of Health (MOH) informed the centre that a student from their Kindergarten 1 class tested positive for Covid-19. Another child from Playgroup was also confirmed to be infected the following morning.

The two children were last in the PCF Sparkletots centre in Choa Chu Kang on Monday (12 July). They have reportedly cleared all temperature checks without any symptoms, according to a report by The Straits Times.

No further information could be given on both children due to patient confidentiality. But the centre assured everybody that they will be working with the authorities to ensure the safety as well as the well-being of all students and staff. MOH may also contact parents whose children are enrolled in the centre.

As for infant care, services will resume on Friday, while the rest of the classes are expected to resume on 27 July.

Parents Advised To Continue Monitoring Their Child’s Health

During this time, Ms Ng advised parents to monitor the health of their children and immediately seek medical attention if they were unwell. She added, “We seek your understanding and cooperation to make alternative childcare arrangements during this period.”

The Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) previously released the following health and safety guidelines for preschools for parents to help reduce the risk of transmission:

1. Immediately inform your child’s preschool if they or any household member has been:

  • Issued with Quarantine Order
  • Issued with SHN
  • Placed on LOA or phone surveillance
  • Undergoing mandatory Covid-19 tests

2. Regularly monitor your child’s health and be on the lookout for symptoms such as:

  • Fever
  • Respiratory symptoms including sore throat, runny nose, cough and breathlessness

3. Stay home and stay safe

  • It is better to keep your child at home if they are feeling unwell and seek a doctor. Parents should also inform the preschool if their child is feeling unwell. They can bring them back when their medical leave period is over or has fully recovered.
