3 tips to keep your family safe while you are at work

23 Jun, 2014

Do you ever wonder what your older kids are up to at home?

Would you like to monitor your helper when you're not around?

Are you concerned about the welfare of your elderly relatives when you are not there?

Protecting your family might be a number 1 priority but work commitments mean that you can’t always be around to ensure things run smoothly at home. Thing is, if you are worried about keeping your family safe, it’s harder to concentrate while at work.

Just having peace of mind that things are ok at home during the day would really help to relieve some of the pressure though. But how can you keep order from a distance?

To help you monitor what is going on at home, we’ve put together these tips. Plus, find out how SingTel Home LIVECam can be a lifeline for busy working parents.

1. Set a strict routine

1. Set a strict routine

If you are leaving a helper in charge at home, set a strict routine for them to follow. Give them a schedule of what needs to be done and by when, and make sure that they tick each task off the list when completed.

Training is key. If you want your helper to mirror what you do at home, then spend time showing them what to do, especially if they are looking after younger babies or childen.

For older kids on their own, give them chores to do around the house so they are not sitting in front of the TV all day - or getting into mischief!

Doing all of these also helps to take the pressure off you when you return home, giving you more time to spend with your family.

2. Safeguard the Internet

2. Safeguard the Internet

Keeping your kids safe online is definitely a necessity nowadays, compared to before. The Internet can be a dangerous place for unknowing eyes.

That’s why setting up safety measures is a really responsible way to monitor what is being viewed in your home — for the sake of your kids and your helper or carer.

It is not uncommon for kids to stumble upon a website or page they should not be viewing…. or worse, find themselves in a situation online which is inappropriate.

Likewise, you’d want to make sure that other people in your home don’t access anything you wouldn’t want to be associated with.

3. Install a home monitoring system

3. Install a home monitoring system

A home monitoring system can be a real help to busy parents. It keeps you in the know about what is happening at home – wherever you are.
