Singapore's first Kids Arts Village

3 min read
Singapore's first Kids Arts Village

The Singapore Arts Festival is pleased to present Singapore’s First Kids Arts Village. The organisers answer your questions on this inaugural event.

Kids Arts Village

The Kids Arts Village is located within the Festival Village @ Esplanade Park. For an on-site map of the Village, please click here!

What is the Kids Arts Village?

This is a special visual and performing arts space specially created by children for children. Curated and managed by the Kids Advisory Panel, this three-week-long festival will feature numerous kindergarten, primary and secondary school children. Come let your imagination run wild!

How did this idea come about?

We were shortlisted by the Singapore Arts Festival to form the Kids Advisory Panel and were treated to watch ten different shows at the 2010 Singapore Arts Festival. Both Mr Low Kee Hong and Mr Jeffrey Tan brainstormed with us as to what we wanted to see and do at the Kids Arts Village this year.

In October 2010, we held a public exhibition of our Kids Arts Village maps and got other children to vote for features that they would like to see and do at the Kids Arts Village. There was also a concurrent ‘Draw your Kids Arts Village’ activity at the Jendala Art Gallery at Esplanade.
All the ideas were given to the professional architects and this village is the result of our dreams!

What to expect at the Kids Arts Village?

  1. Watch out for the Children’s Eco-Garden
  2. Peek into the Topsy-turvy Rabbit Hole.
  3. Catch Children’s Show Time
  4. Be inspired by the art works in the Children’s Art Gallery
  5. Create a recycled craft to take home!

No, it is FREE! However, due to limited spaces, all participants are advised to pre-register for the shows and activities at [email protected] early.

Can I visit the Kids arts Village outside of the three allocated time slots?

Yes you can! The Kids Arts Village is open daily from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm (with the exception of 23 May and 30 May).

What can I see outside of the three allocated time slots?

You can walk through the Children’s Eco-Garden, peek into the Topsy-turvy Rabbit Hole and visit the Children’s Art Gallery. The performance stage will be transformed into a secondary stage for performances by adults after 5:00 pm.
