7-Year-old Singaporean Is Champion At 2020 Pokémon International Championships

A battle of wits, with her trusty eevee on watch.

Only at 7 years old, Simone Lim has not only emerged as champion in the recent International Pokémon Championship—she has also won the hearts of audience and netizens. Simone Lim pokemon

The 2020 Pokémon Oceania International Championships were held in Melbourne, Australia over the weekend.

The young Singaporean battled it out with opponent, Justin Miranda-Radbord—who is twice her age—in the Junior Championships grand final for Pokémon Sword and Shield, on 23 February 2020.

It was Simone’s first major tournament, according to Mashable.

Despite being a relatively new trainer, she eventually beat Justin who had previously won multiple International championships as well as last year’s Oceania title. She even won cash money for herself.

Both Simone and Justin were caught in a tie, with the final game as the deciding factor.

It was a “precarious situation” for Simone in the final game as her “lineup” was just struck down to one Pokémon, whereas Justin had two.

She had to “read” Justin carefully if she wanted to win. With a clear calculated move, Simone used the ‘Tyranitar’s Crunch’ that led her to victory.

About her victory? That shy smile on Simone’s face tells it all. Her friend also came to give her a hug.

Absolutely priceless.

Thanked her friends, family and coach

Simone also thanked her friends, family and coach while clutching her Eevee plush during an interview of her win, according to Mashable.

And not to forget Simone’s eevee, who was like a pillar of support during the competition.
