National Engineers Day 2026: A Free Way to Get Your Kids Excited About Engineering

National Engineers Day 2026 brings free seminars, learning journeys and a student innovation competition to Singapore from 3 to 14 August, giving families a fun way to spark curiosity about engineering.

National Engineers Day 2026 is back, and it is the perfect excuse to get your little ones curious about how the world around them actually works. Organised by the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES), this free nationwide event runs from 3 to 14 August 2026, bringing together industry leaders, students and curious families for a series of seminars, learning journeys and a student innovation competition.

If your child has ever taken apart a toy just to see how it works, asked why planes can fly, or spent hours building the tallest possible tower out of blocks, they already have the spark of an engineer in them. National Engineers Day was created to nurture exactly that kind of curiosity, and it is open to everyone, completely free of charge.

What is National Engineers Day (NED) All About?

Think about it. From the AI assistants on our phones to the smart infrastructure that keeps our city running, engineering is quietly shaping how we live, work and care for our families. NED 2026 shines a light on the people behind these innovations, while giving the next generation a front row seat to what a career in engineering could look like.

As IES celebrates its 60th year, NED 2026 continues its mission of honouring engineers and inspiring young minds to see engineering not as a distant, complicated field, but as an exciting way to solve real problems.

What Can Families Look Forward to at NED 2026?

There is something for every kind of learner across the two week programme.

  • Industry-Led Seminars. Held at various locations across Singapore, these sessions bring engineering leaders and industry experts together to share insights on emerging technologies and where the profession is headed. It is a great opportunity for older kids and teens who are starting to think about future career paths.
  • Learning Journeys. For families who love a good field trip, this is where the fun happens. Learning Journeys take participants behind the scenes of Singapore’s engineering achievements through exclusive site visits, offering a hands on look at how engineering shapes the industries and communities around us.
  • Engineering Innovation Challenge (EIC) 2026. This nationwide competition invites students to put their creativity to the test by developing engineering solutions to real world challenges. Guided by industry professionals, participants design and build their own prototypes with sustainability in mind. The winning teams will be recognised at the NED-EIC 2026 Prize Presentation Ceremony, the grand finale of this year’s celebrations.
