SG60 List: Singapore Keeps the World’s Most Powerful Passport in 2025

SG60 List: Singapore Keeps the World’s Most Powerful Passport in 2025

In the 2025 Henley Passport Index, Singapore ranks first in the world, maintaining its position as the holder of the most powerful passport globally. This coveted ranking reflects the country’s continued access to 193 destinations visa-free or with a visa-on-arrival, the highest number globally.

This remarkable achievement marks Singapore’s enduring strength in foreign diplomacy, trust, and global standing. As nations across the world grapple with shifting alliances and policies, Singapore’s stability and strong bilateral relations have preserved its top-tier passport status.

Unmatched in Southeast Asia and Beyond

Singapore’s passport is not only the strongest globally—it is the most powerful in Southeast Asia, far ahead of regional peers. It ranks above global powers like Germany, Japan, and South Korea, each with access to 190 countries. This high level of global mobility gives Singaporeans access to virtually every corner of the world, making travel for business, education, or leisure exceptionally smooth.

The Henley Index evaluates 199 passports and 227 destinations. Being first is not just symbolic—it reflects deep international cooperation, excellent border control, and the strength of Singapore’s diplomatic relations.

What the Passport Represents

As Singapore celebrates 60 years of independence, retaining the world’s strongest passport becomes more than a number. It represents:

  • Global trust in Singaporeans

  • Diplomatic excellence and decades of strategic partnerships

  • A tangible symbol of freedom of movement

  • An edge for Singaporeans in global careers, education, and entrepreneurship

This recognition aligns with the broader SG60 celebration—honouring not only the past 60 years but also the values that will shape Singapore’s future.

Trust, Connectivity, and Opportunity

Singapore’s global passport dominance isn’t accidental. It reflects a nation that has prioritised international connectivity, citizen mobility, and foreign policy excellence. While some countries have seen declines in passport strength due to geopolitical changes, Singapore has remained consistent through strong governance and diplomacy.

It also translates into real-world advantages: fewer visa costs, less travel stress, and greater global access for Singaporeans. For a nation built on trade, talent, and global exchange, these benefits carry substantial weight.

SG60 Reflection: A Passport of Pride

In this SG60 year, Singaporeans can take pride not just in infrastructure or innovation, but in a passport that symbolises trust, opportunity, and respect on the global stage. It opens doors—literally and figuratively—making every journey a reminder of Singapore’s place in the world.
