Sexual health resolutions for married couples

15 Jan, 2013
Sexual health resolutions

Sexual health resolutions

As we make lists to exercise more or be better people, we should also look at our sexual health. Here are some ways you can start improving your sexual health this year.
Make sex a priority

Make sex a priority

You are exhausted, the dishes are piling up, the kid's have homework, work is driving you insane - who has time to prioritize "couple time". We hear you - but it's important. And we're not just talking about the five minute roll in the hay before the kid's wake up for school. Mums and dad's - take time out and make adult time a priority this year.

Create a bucket list

Create a bucket list

Get out of your comfort zone and make a sexual bucket list with your partner! Have fun with it and be open to trying new things. Most importantly, try doing the stuff on the list within the year. The novelty could definitely bring the spark back into a lagging relationship.
Fantasize about each other

Fantasize about each other

Take the time to engage in sexual fantasy throughout the day. After all the mind is said to be the most potent sex organ. Sexual fantasy has also been linked to improving desire and fueling libido making body and mind primed for action between the sheets. You can help your partner engage in sexual fantasy by leaving sexy messages or his mobile or tantalising clues around the house!
Explore your body

Explore your body

Every person has different erogenous zones. So take the time to explore your own. Experiment with pressure and touch all over your body and find what works for you. This will help develop intimacy within ourselves, so that we can successfully share it with our spouse.
Talk about it

Talk about it

Talking about sex should never be seen as taboo. In fact it can be a healthy endeavour if done correctly. This year, why not talk to your spouse about your sexual expectations as a couple and why some things work or don't. The honest discussion could improve your sex lives in the long run. Just remember not to criticise or make harsh judgements as it's all about constructive criticism and keeping an open mind.
Know the facts

Know the facts

It's imperative that you educate yourself on what is fact and what is myths perpetuated by romantic Hollywood movies when it comes to love making and sexual satisfaction. Understand that each person is different and not everyone has the same kinds of desire or able to reach multiple orgasms. Once you know the facts about you and your partner's bodies, you can banish unrealistic expectations and work on a sexual rhythm/routine that is pleasurable to both of you.
Go to the doctor

Go to the doctor

Get a full body sexual health checkup and don't just stop at the pap smear. Consider other physiological assessments such as genital blood flow and nerve sensations as well as psychological tests that address stress and anxiety issues that might be affecting you in bed. Those tests could give you more insight into why you're not quite in the mood for love most nights and even provide tips on how to increase the libido.
