Sell a baby for a cellular phone?
Did you know that aside from cash and credit, there is now a new way of paying for purchases? A young Chinese couple showed how one can now pay “in baby”. Just recently, this couple from Southwestern China sold their baby for about US$360 (S$500) just so they could get a new cellular phone. Selling their baby for a mere cellphone? How could they?
The Shanghai Daily reports that the father, who is only 21, does not have any intention of getting back his baby while the mother, who is only 19, wants the baby back. However, the police does not think that the mother is capable of raising her son well considering that she allowed her husband to sell their baby.
What’s worse is that the baby boy was sold twice before the crime was reported to the police. First, by the couple then by the man who bought him from them. In the second transaction, the baby was sold for about US$ 1,500 (S$ 2,100).
I’m sure a lot of parents are guilty of saying to their kids, “If only I could sell you…” or something to that effect when they are frustrated or fed up with them. But I’m certain that these words are only said in jest. However, to carry that out is just pure madness on the parents’ part!
