The “Rediscover China” event promises to engage your senses with an array of activities and exhibits that will take you through a discovery journey to learn about a side of China that you did not know before.
- Go discover the nature and adventure trails
Take a walk through the charming trails and get up close and personal with nature. Enjoy a moment of tranquility at Jiuzhaigou Valley, Chengdu, with waterfall sounds and a scenic view that make the whole experience postcard-perfect.
The breathtaking natural view of Jiuzhaigou is simply beyond beautiful.
Discover the ancient town in Lijiang, and explore the lives of these folks.
- Gain insights to the rich culture of China
With a cultural diversity like no other, China is home to 56 ethnic groups with over 90% of the population comprised of the Han community. The culture, heritage and lifestyle of the minority ethnic groups are still preserved in many parts of China, such as Yunnan, Guangxi and Xinjiang. Visitors can look forward to experiencing first-hand their local customs and festivals.
Over the thousands of years of Chinese history, the capital has been located in different parts of China at different points of time. Each relocation of the capital brought flourishing of the arts and trade to the surrounding areas, and some of these merchant towns remain well preserved today.
Apart from the well-known ancient towns in Lijiang and Pingyao, you can also take leisurely strolls around UNESCO World Heritage Site Hong Village in Anhui Province, or interact with the old residents at the traditional tea houses and barber shops of Daxu Ancient Town in Guilin.
Jiangnan, the area south of the Yangtze River, is renowned for its unique water towns. City dwellers can retreat to the tranquil towns of Xitang, Nanxun, Tongli and Luzhi and enjoy the picturesque views of willows and traditional buildings located along the rivers.
- Visit filming locations in China
Did you know the award-winning film, Avatar, was inspired by Zhangjiajie?
Director James Cameron was notably influenced by the picturesque peaks of Zhangjiajie and incorporated them into his Hollywood blockbuster.
Bet you didn’t know that Transformers 4: Age of Extinction was also filmed at the Wulong Karst in Chongqing!
Walk into the world of “Raise the Red Lantern”’s wealthy Master Chen at the Qiao Family Compound near Pingyao Ancient Town in Anhui Province. The impressive mansion was the filming location for Zhang Yimou’s renowned film starring Gong Li.
Fans of romance comedy “If You Were The One” (starring Shu Qi and Ge You) can also visit Hangzhou’s West Lake and Sanya’s Yalong Bay Bird Nest Resort to follow the path of the couple during their date and honeymoon.
- Capture picture-perfect shots
Both photography pros and beginners can look forward to a smorgasbord of swoon-worthy shots in China. Whilst the Great Wall and Forbidden City are one of the most photographed sights of China, the Middle Kingdom’s varied topography profile provides many opportunities for its visitors.
From the misty Huangshan to the multi-tier Detian Falls in Guangxi, the natural wonders of China are bound to take your breath away. For those seeking unique scenes of China, photograph the fishermen of Guilin at work on bamboo rafts along the Li River and capture the migratory cranes against the majestic red reed beach at Panjin in Liaoning Province.
On the other hand, folks who love capturing modern skylines will enjoy the breathtaking lights and cityscape of Shanghai. The outstanding skyscraper of the Shanghai Tower is both a challenge to capture and pure camera fodder.
Noodles, together with rice, is a staple of Chinese cuisine.
Learn about the different types of noodle dishes from 12 regions of China at the event! Furthermore, visitors of the event can sample the traditional Dragon Beard Candy which is available from 7-13 Sept, 19-20 Sept, 24, 26 & 27 Sept.
