Real-life superheroes: 7 SG kids to be proud of

28 Sep, 2015

An artist with a big heart, a young computer genius, & the prodigal son from Singapore's very own version of the Beckhams family - these are just some of the talented and hardworking Singapore kids who are doing our country proud!

7 SG Kids We Should Be Proud Of

7 SG Kids We Should Be Proud Of

Superheroes don’t have to be able to fly, jump from building to building, or possess fancy gadgets to fight evil. They can be the good in this world just by being caring, compassionate, kind, hardworking and letting their natural talents shine through.

Here are seven of our local Singaporean kids who have shown their true super powers and have made us proud just by being their awesome selves!

1. Muhammad Azri Ramlan - Responsible Caregiver

1. Muhammad Azri Ramlan - Responsible Caregiver

Despite being the youngest of six children, this 13-year-old not only has to juggle his schoolwork and being on his school’s football team, he also helps to look after his wheelchair-bound father who was paralysed after being involved in a motorcycle accident several years ago.

Azri’s mother, who works at the National University Hospital is the sole-breadwinner of the family, and four of his other siblings are no longer living with them, so Azri and his 17-year-old older brother had to step up to help look after their father by bathing and changing him on a daily basis.

This real-life superhero is a stunning example of filial piety and unconditional love that a child has for his parents.

2. Lim Ding Wen - Innovative Programmer

2. Lim Ding Wen - Innovative Programmer

At the tender age of just nine years, this child prodigy has possibly become the world’s youngest Apple IIGS programmer.

According to his father, Ding Wen began showing an interest in computers before he was even two-years-old and when he was in Primary 1, he requested to write his own game. Under his father’s guidance he quickly learned computer programming and today he knows six computer languages before even reaching Primary 2!

He designed a fun iPhone app called Doodle Kids, which is a painting app for children. He is now working on a more complex programme called Invader Wars.

This tiny superhero reminds us all, that if we just put our minds to it, we can achieve anything!

3. Dr Jiajia - Youtube Sensation

3. Dr Jiajia - Youtube Sensation

This little boy and his brother shot to internet fame after his Singlish Minister video went viral online. They now have an impressive following of over 16,000 fans and 10,000 subscribers.

The two brothers churn out hilarious series of Singlish videos which garner about 3.6 million views!

What first started out as his mother’s small school project on speaking good English has now turned this expressive six-year-old boy into a mini celebrity who often gets recognised on the streets and will even be acting in an upcoming local movie titled, Ah Beng.

This pint-sized hero is a great example of how having fun at what you do and being true to yourself can take you far!

By the time she was only seven years old, Gelyn had already held her own solo art exhibition called, My Dreams, My Wishes, which featured 29 of her very own whimsical art pieces.

Not only that, this talented little girl also helps to raise funds from her beautiful art exhibitions which she donates to various charities including the Make-A-Wish foundation.

She has also since written and illustrated a book titled, The Forest Fable, which is an enchanting story about a magical forest and the fascinating creatures that call it home.

Gelyn’s artistic superpower and generous nature is truly an inspiration to us all!

Scoring herself a solo performance at the recent SG50 event, Youth Celebrate!, this petite singer has impressive vocals that leave the audience in complete awe.

Coming from a family that is musically inclined, this rising star can also pay the guitar, ukelele and the piano.

With no formal singing lessons, this natural talent has been practicing her vocals since the age of three, by singing along to the music played by her father, who is also a musician.

This petite superhero’s natural talents shows that you don’t have to fork out hundreds of dollars to be a star.

Daughter of TV celebrities Darren Lim and Evelyn Tan, this nine-year-old is now starring in StarHub’s new local drama, Jump Class, which premiered earlier this year.

Even though she felt scared and stressed during her very first acting experience, she has now gotten the hang of being in front of the camera and enjoys herself during shoots.

Her parents see this as a way for their daughter to gain some experience, although Kristen has expressed interest in becoming a singer, an artist or someone who cares for pets in future.

This budding actress shows us that if you push yourself out of your comfort zone, there are many things you can achieve!

7. Irfan Fandi - Football Royalty

Hailing from Singapore’s very own family of football royalty, this 17 year old is the son of national treasure, Fandi Ahmad, and he is following in his father’s footsteps to become a household name in football.

The eldest of five, Irfan is recognised for his impressive ability to dribble at defenders and beat them with his remarkable skills.

Unaffected by the amount of pressure on him because of his famous father, Irfan first impressed the public during the 2013 Lion City Cup as he scored against the Under-15s of Arsenal and German club Eintracht Frankfurt.

It is clear that Irfan’s superhero powers lie in his athletic abilities, hard work and perseverance to rise to the top!
