In her public Platinum Jubilee message, Queen Elizabeth addressed the future of the monarchy as she marks the 70th anniversary of her reign.

She even adds an optimistic note in her message writing, “These last seven decades have seen extraordinary progress socially, technologically and culturally that benefitted us all; and I am confident that the future will offer similar opportunities to us and especially to the younger generations in the United Kingdom and throughout the Commonwealth.”

Her Majesty follows this up by then voicing her support for Camilla to one day be known as Queen. In her statement, she says that Camilla should be known as “Queen Consort” when Charles becomes King.

Her exact words as she wrote were, “And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”

Queen Elizabeth is the only person who can define such royal titles.

It was believed that Camilla would hold a “Princess Consort” title when Charles became King. This was a move reportedly out of respect for the late Princess Diana, who used to be the wife of Charles. The Princess of Wales tragically died in a car crash in 1997.

There was much scrutiny from the public as Charles and Camilla were romantically involved while he was still married to Diana.

Although, it seems Queen Elizabeth wants the public to accept Camilla as a central figure in the royal family. Her Majesty even appointed Camilla as a Royal Lady of the Most Noble Order of the Garter back in December.

A spokesperson has reportedly said that Charles and Camilla were “touched and honoured by Her majesty’s words.”
