Prince William on Parenting: 'Please tell me it gets easier'

Prince William on Parenting: 'Please tell me it gets easier'

He admits to looking forward to the drama the teen years will bring

All parents can relate to the worry that comes when you realize your sweet little baby may grow up to a moody, broody teenager. TV and Films often depict teens as abrasive and rebellious but even though your kids grow up to be sweethearts, a little bit of drama is unavoidable.

Even if you’re the Duke of Cambridge, you’re not immune to this.

Prince William told E! News that things are going very well with his two young children. “No broken bones so far but they are trying, running around and pushing things and jumping.”

When asked  he jokingly added, “Please tell me it gets easier,” but went on to say, “Charlotte is very easy.”

William goes on to share that he has received his fair share of parenting advice. “But all the fathers say to me, ‘Just you wait, when they get to nine or 11 they get crazy,'” says the Duke of Cambridge.

“I’m looking forward to it,” he clarifies. “There will be some drama.”

Though these sound bites were just offhand remarks, there is a lot of truth to what he said, something many parents can surely relate to.

Things will get crazy but each stage in your child’s life is to be cherished.

Yes, there will be drama. But there is so much more to be excited about. As your kids enter their tween and teen years, this is when you get to know them as well. Seeing them evolve and guiding them along the way is one of the most rewarding joys of parenthood.

Parents relish the present, knowing that the future must be prepared for. Despite the tantrums and the misunderstandings, parents know that they are responsible for their kid’s health and happiness and this is a great honor.

Kids grow up. Their priorities will change. Parents, who they usually put on a pedestal for most of their childhood quickly transform into someone uncool. Sure, kids still love their parents but growing up may mean that they long to build their own world which doesn’t necessarily include their parents.

But, it doesn’t mean they don’t appreciate having their parents to come home to.
