PLAYtime! 2017 at Esplanade: 3 Fantastically fun-filled theatre shows for kids

PLAYtime! 2017 is bringing local children’s books to the stage. Get friendly with a misunderstood cockroach, sing and dance away with some magical socks, or watch a beautiful oil painting come to life! 3 great adventures await you and your kids in this interactive theatre series at the Esplanade

The school holidays are over, but the fun never ends at the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay with this exciting interactive theatre series that brings local children’s books to life onstage.

Expose your little ones to live theatre performances especially designed for young kids which are filled with song, dance, and other visual delights!

Sensory-friendly performances with a more relaxed environment are also available for children on the autism spectrum or those with sensory sensitivities, so everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the magic of theatre.

Esplanade, theatre, Fatimah and Her Magic Socks

Fatimah and her Magic Socks is a children’s book written by Zizi Azah Bte Abdul Majid and illustrated by Izmir Ickbal

1. Fatimah and Her Magic Socks

Let your child’s imagination take him places as he goes on an exciting adventure with Fatimah by using the special powers of her magical socks!

Come face to face with a mysterious lion and learn more about friendship in this page to stage theatrical production filled with song and dance.

Recommended for: 2 – 4 year olds

Dates: 28th April – 14th May 2017 (no shows on 3rd, 8th, 9th, 11th May)

Weekday timings: 9.30am & 11.00am daily; 11.00am & 4.00pm on 1st and 10th May

Weekend timings: 11.00am & 4.00pm (4pm show only on 13th May)

Esplanade, theatre, Koko the Great

This exciting production is held in conjunction with Children’s Biennale organised by National Gallery Singapore

2. Koko The Great

Sing and dance along with the imaginative little Koko as he dons a pot on his head for a helmet and uses a spatula as a sword to go on a thrilling adventure!

Join him on a fun escapade around the kampong where he meets some friendly animals in this colourful theatre performance inspired by Singaporean artist Liu Kang’s oil painting, Life by the River.

Recommended for: 2 – 4 year olds

Dates: 11th August – 27th August 2017 (no shows on 14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd Aug)

Weekday timings: 9.30am & 11.00am daily

Weekend timings: 11.00am & 4.00pm (4.00pm show only on 26th Aug)

Esplanade, theatre, Rochee the Friendliest Cockroach

Get tickled by this adorable story of Rochee the cockroach!

3. Rochee: The Friendliest Cockroach (Oops, you’ve missed this one!)

What happens when Rochee, a helpful little cockroach, wants to makes friends with a girl named Glenny?

Your kids will be delighted by the catchy song and dance numbers in this adaptation of Gavin Goo’s children’s book as they watch a misunderstood cockroach’s hilarious quest to form an unlikely friendship.
