On the day of the attack, the victim was dropped off at school by his elder sister around 6.45am. An hour after this, he was allegedly attacked by his schoolmate.

The incident was then reported to the police at about 7.45am. The secondary school student was taken to the hospital conscious and is assisting with police investigations.

“Another student, who allegedly used a pole to hit the student, was arrested for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon,” says a police spokesman, as per The Straits Times.

The same spokesperson declined to reveal the ages of the teens involved in the alleged attack.

The victim’s sister, who is in her 20s, said both teen were not on good terms. She even said the alleged attacker had purportedly taken the metal rod to school. She adds that the school did its best to protect her brother by keeping them separated.

Despite the incident, the sister is not seeking punishment for the alleged assailant. Although, she does wish to raise awareness about safety in schools while citing the recent tragic incident at River Valley High School.

In addition to his injuries, the secondary school student was found to also be positive for Covid-19 when he was taken to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital after the attack.

The sister of the boy said her brother tested positive for infection after being swabbed at the hospital. This was while he was receiving treatment for his injuries.

Both sister and brother are currently quarantined together at home. It was also reported that the secondary school student is recovering well.

The boy suffered a wound on his scalp that doctors sealed shut using medical glue. This was eventually removed from his head on Monday (4 October).

In response to ST, the Ministry of Education has also stated that the injured student has been discharged from the hospital. The ministry adds that the school is providing support to the students involved.
