Release Of 2021 O-Level Results: 85.6% Of Students Score 5 Or More Passes

4 min read

The 2021 O-Level examination results were just released in Singapore. Students who sat for the exams were reported to have performed slightly better than those a year before.

Arrangements were made for candidates to receive their results in their respective classrooms, said the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) in a press release on Wednesday (12 January).

For the 2021 Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (GCE O-Level), a total of 23,555 candidates sat for the examination.

According to MOE, 23,515 or 99.8 per cent of these students have 1 or more O-Level passes. 22,716 or 96.4% of them were also found to have 3 or more passes.

But what made this cohort’s performance impressive was how 20,152 or 85.6 per cent of these students managed to obtain 5 or more O-Level passes. This is said to be up marginally from 85.4 per cent in 2020, as per The Straits Times.

“This is comparable to the performance of candidates for the GCE O-Level Examination in previous years, notwithstanding COVID-19,” said MOE and SEAB.

Education Minister Chan Chun Sing has also shared a Facebook post to congratulate students on a job well done. He wrote, “Always remember that success is not just defined by one’s academic achievements — there are many avenues for you to attain your aspirations. The well-trodden path may not be for everyone.”

“I wish you the very best for the next step of your lifelong education,” he added.

Students Received Results In Their Classrooms With Safety Measures In Place

Among the safe management measures arranged for students to receive their results, only school candidates were allowed entry into school premises.

Those who were unable to collect their results in person were allowed to appoint a proxy to collect a physical copy on their behalf. If they could still not appoint a proxy, they can contact their schools for assistance.

All students are also able to access their results online via the SEAB’s Candidates Portal. They can use their Singpass account to check their results while international students receive a system-generated username via email.

Meanwhile, private candidates will be notified of their individual results by post to the address they provided to SEAB.

Applying For Joint Admissions Exercise

Those who wish to apply for admission to Junior Colleges, Millennia Institute, polytechnics and the Institue of Technical Education (ITE) can do so through the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) using their O-Level results.

The JAE registration is ongoing until 4pm on January 17. Students can access the JAE Internet System to submit their course choices.

Eligible students who have collected their exam results will receive their copy of Form A which lists the following:

  • Their results
  • Courses they may apply for
  • Personal password to access the JAE Internet System

School candidates can appoint a proxy to collect their Form A from schools or download it from the JAE Internet System during the registration person.

Private candidates will receive their Form A through post.

Education And Career Guidance For School Candidates

MOE added how students can approach their teachers or Education and Career Guidance (ECG) Counsellors for guidance on their education options. They can also refer to the interactive MySkillsFuture portal. Here they can find out more about the range of education options and career pathways that are available.

Students can also make an appointment for online or phone counselling with an ECG Counsellor.

They can do so through the e-Appointment system or by calling the ECG hotline at 6831 1420. There is also an option to send an email at [email protected]
