NTU Singapore and Marshall Cavendish Education Collaborate to Develop Online Courses for K12 Educators

NTU Singapore and Marshall Cavendish Education Collaborate to Develop Online Courses for K12 Educators

“Teaching is not a static profession, and educators need to constantly challenge themselves, upskill, and keep abreast of changes."

To arm educators with the latest knowledge and advance their skill sets in an increasingly digitalised world, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) is working with Marshall Cavendish Education (MCE), publisher and leading provider of educational solutions, to develop bite-sized online learning courses designed to build up specific skillsets for the modern educator.

Under this five-year collaboration, NTU Singapore’s Centre for Professional and Continuing Education ([email protected]) will tap on the expertise of the University’s faculty to design the curriculum and content for over 40 online courses. MCE will then package the content into courses with interactive elements to make them more engaging for learners.

These courses will be offered to K-12 educators (the equivalent of primary and secondary school educators) outside Singapore on a subscription basis through MCEduHub for Professional Development (PD) – MCE’s 24/7 learning portal designed for educators to access certified courses, anytime and anywhere.

The partnership was inked on 1 July by Professor Tjin Swee Chuan, NTU Associate Provost (Continuing Education) and Chief Executive, Centre for Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) and Mr Yeoh Cheng Poh, Head of MCE.

The signing was witnessed by NTU President Professor Subra Suresh and Mr Koh Poh Tiong, Chairman of Times Publishing Limited (MCE’s parent company).

Professor Tjin Swee Chuan said: “Teaching is not a static profession, and educators need to constantly challenge themselves, upskill, and keep abreast of changes. I am confident that the online courses developed by NTU and MCE will help educators continue their own professional development in their own time, so they can become more effective teachers and at the same time inculcate in their students the spirit of lifelong learning.”

Mr. Siew Peng Yim, CEO of Times Publishing Limited shared: “At MCE, we believe that well-trained and well-equipped educators are essential to effective learning in a classroom, they are also the facilitator and driver to nurture the joy of learning and prepare students for the future. We are thrilled to continue our collaboration with NTU to make quality learning more accessible and affordable for educators around the region.”

This collaboration builds on the success of a pilot two-hour online course launched last year, when schools had to implement home-based learning in light of the COVID-19 restrictions.

Called ‘Designing Effective Online Lessons’, the two-hour online course addresses the urgent need to help educators design effective online learning lessons for their students.

Each course will be made up of bite-sized lessons, with various assessment methods integrated into the course. Upon completion, learners will receive a certificate issued by NTU.

This is a press release distributed by Marshall Cavendish Education (MCE) and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore).
