As Singapore gears up to celebrate its 58th birthday, many of us are excited to join in the festivities and witness the spectacular NDP fireworks.
The National Day Parade is a momentous occasion, and one of the most common questions asked is, “Where can we watch the NDP 2023 fireworks for free?” Fortunately, we have compiled a list of vantage points to help you enjoy the fireworks without spending a dime. Please note that the situation may vary on the day itself, so plan accordingly.
NDP 2023 Rehearsal Dates & Times
Before we delve into the best spots, let’s take note of some important details. In addition to the main parade on 9th August, there will be two preview shows on 22nd and 29th July 2023, where you can also catch the fireworks display. The fireworks usually illuminate the sky between 8.10pm and 8.25pm, so make sure to arrive around 8pm to secure a good viewing spot.
Marina Bay & Padang
The NDP fireworks will kick off at The Padang and the bay fronting Marina Bay Sands. If you are in this area from the start of the parade, you might catch glimpses of the NDP highlights, such as the flag flypast and fighter jets salute.
1. Merlion Park @ Marina Bay
If you couldn’t secure a ticket to The Padang, Merlion Park is your next best option for the best views of the CBD fireworks. As you walk across Jubilee Bridge, you’ll notice a crowd forming here. The park faces the open field directly, providing unobstructed views of both the light-ups and the stunning Marina Bay skyline.
2. Helix Bridge
Take a romantic night stroll along the Helix Bridge with your loved one as you wait for the fireworks to illuminate the sky. Popular among couples, this bridge connects Marina Centre to Marina South, offering views of the CBD skyline and a sneak peek of The Padang in the distance.
The bridge itself is also an Instagram-worthy spot, so don’t miss the chance to capture memorable moments before the grand finale at 8.15pm.
3. Bay East Garden
Bay East Garden is another hotspot for free NDP fireworks views. This 2km track leads all the way to East Coast Park, offering several excellent vantage points along the way. However, the best spot is the waterfront promenade in the middle of the track, directly opposite Gardens By The Bay.
From here, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the fireworks above the Singapore Flyer and Marina Bay Sands. Additionally, the garden is open 24 hours, allowing you to arrive early, secure the best spots, and relax even after the spectacle. Do expect large crowds on the actual day.
4. Marina Barrage
Marina Barrage is another famous alternative, particularly among young families. In addition to the picnic ground, which is usually filled with mats and snacks, the rooftop garden offers a chill-out spot with a view of the entire CBD on the horizon.
For a prime spot here, pack your favorite snacks, and be prepared to camp out for a few hours before the show.
5. The Lawn @ Marina Bay
What could be better than enjoying the fireworks from an open field in the heart of the CBD? The Lawn @ Marina Bay is often less crowded, making it a relaxing spot to cozy up and wait for the fireworks to begin.
6. Clifford Square
Situated near Fullerton Hotel, Clifford Square is an event space with a clear view of Marina Bay Sands and the ArtScience Museum. This means you’ll definitely be able to witness the fireworks from here. It is usually less crowded compared to other spots, as most people who come here to catch the fireworks are likely sitting in nearby restaurants.
If you don’t mind standing, make Clifford Square your preferred firework-spotting location.
Heartlands
7. Our Tampines Hub
Easties can heave a sigh of relief as they won’t have to travel all the way to the town area for a glimpse of the fireworks. As part of the NDP @ Heartlands initiative, community fireworks will be displayed at five locations across the island, including Our Tampines Hub. All tickets will be free.
The community fireworks will be blasted simultaneously with the main event in the CBD. On 6th August 2023, pre-NDP festivities will be held, featuring activities such as sports try-outs and live performances.
Possible vantage points in Tampines: Block 907, Tampines Avenue 4 | Block 856A, Tampines Street 82.
Pro tip: For a clearer view, avoid Tampines Central Park and head to Tampines Avenue 4 instead.
8. Toa Payoh Stadium
Toa Payoh Stadium is another venue for the NDP @ Heartlands initiative. If you reside in the central region or nearby, you should be able to see the fireworks from the highest floor of your compound. Pre-NDP festivities will also be held on 5th and 6th August 2023 at all the stadiums mentioned here.
Possible vantage points: Along Kallang River | Block 105, Jalan Rajah | Block 242, Kim Keat Link.
9. Bedok Stadium
Bedok Stadium represents the East side in the NDP fireworks lineup. If you live in this neighborhood, head to the stadium to witness the sparkling action.
Possible vantage points: Block 33, Bedok South Avenue 2 | Block 180, Bedok North.
10. Jurong West Stadium
Westies, don’t worry about missing out. Community fireworks will also be displayed at Jurong West Stadium, allowing residents in the area to enjoy the dazzling show without traveling to the CBD.
Possible vantage points: Block 643 Jurong West Street 61 | Block 977 Jurong West Street 93.
11. Woodlands Stadium
Residents of Woodlands will be pleased to know that the NDP fireworks are coming to their area. If you didn’t manage to secure a ticket to Woodlands Stadium, don’t worry, as the fireworks will be accessible to all residents in the area, especially those on higher ground.
Possible vantage points: Block 102 Woodlands Street 13 | Block 350 Woodlands Avenue 3.
