A Family Guide to Singapore National Day 2023 - SG58

Get ready for a day filled with fun, festivities, and family as we approach National Day 2023 in Singapore or SG58.

With the sound of jet fighters buzzing overhead, the anticipation is palpable. Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s celebrations.

Understanding Singapore National Day

National Day is a significant event in Singapore, celebrated annually on 9 August. It marks Singapore’s independence from Malaysia in 1965.

The main highlights of the day include the Prime Minister’s address, the much-loved National Day Parade (NDP), and a grand fireworks celebration.

Embracing the SG58 Theme: Onward As One

This year’s theme, “Onward As One,” encapsulates the spirit of unity and resilience of Singaporeans. It emphasizes the importance of moving forward together, as one cohesive unit, to build a shared future.

“Onward As One” – a rallying call for Singaporeans to stride confidently into the future, united as a single force in shaping our shared destiny. With resilience as our backbone, we embrace the challenges ahead, for “Onward” signifies a nation that looks beyond, undeterred by obstacles. Together, we march “As One,” recognizing our collective stake in Singapore’s future, highlighting inclusivity and unity as our guiding principles.

The logo, with its lion head, symbolizes our determination to build a shared future, gazing resolutely towards the horizon. The embedded number “58” reminds us of our remarkable journey thus far.

Additionally, the five stars embody Singapore’s democratic, peaceful, progressive, just, and egalitarian ideals, anchoring us firmly as we advance together. The upward angle of the logo reflects our aspirations to elevate Singapore to new heights, regardless of the trials that lie ahead.

Sing Along to the NDP 2023 Theme Song

The NDP 2023 theme song, “Shine Your Light,” is a vibrant tune that encapsulates the can-do spirit of Singaporeans.

Written by Don Richmond and Shigga Shay, the song encourages everyone to keep chasing their dreams while helping others along the way. It’s a great song to sing along to with your children, instilling in them the values of perseverance and unity.

Join the Singapore National Day Celebration Across The Country

On the weekend of 5 and 6 August, National Day celebrations will be held at five locations across Singapore: Bedok Stadium, Jurong West Stadium, Toa Payoh Stadium, Woodlands Stadium, and Our Tampines Hub.

Each location will feature large carnivals filled with activities perfect for family bonding, engaging exhibitions, and performances by local artists.

Witnessing the Singapore National Day Parade and Ceremony

On National Day itself, families can enjoy the State Flag Flypast and the Presidential Gun Salute at The Padang.

Look out for the RSAF55 Aerial Display and the Total Defence Parade, featuring floats and assets from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), Singapore Police Force (SPF), and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

These displays of national pride are sure to mesmerize both adults and children alike.
