The Science Behind HiPP COMBIOTIC®

The Science Behind HiPP COMBIOTIC®

Inspired by the natural composition of breast milk, HiPP COMBIOTIC® was developed with a unique synbiotic combination designed to support healthy growth from the very beginning.

The first years of life are crucial for the development of a child’s intestinal microbiota, which plays an important role in supporting immune function and overall wellbeing. Inspired by the natural composition of breast milk, HiPP COMBIOTIC® was developed with a unique synbiotic combination designed to support healthy growth from the very beginning.

What is HiPP COMBIOTIC®?

At the heart of HiPP COMBIOTIC®is a carefully selected blend of prebiotics and probiotics. The formulation combines galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS), a proven prebiotic derived from organic lactose, with Limosilactobacillus fermentum CECT 5716, (L. fermentum for short) a natural probiotic strain originally isolated from human milk and recognised as one of the primary colonisers of the intestine.

This unique synbiotic composition forms the basis of what HiPP refers to as the COMBIOTIC® Effect — a three-step pathway that supports the development of a healthy intestinal microbiota, contributes to immune system development, and helps provide protection during early childhood.

The COMBIOTIC® Effect

Research has shown that the combination of GOS and L. fermentum supports the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, including bifidobacteria and lactobacilli, resulting in a healthy intestinal microbiota.

A healthy intestinal microbiota plays a key role in immune development. Clinical studies have demonstrated that children fed HiPP COMBIOTIC® showed increased levels of secretory Immunoglobulin A (IgA) in stool, an important marker associated with intestinal immune function.

The benefits of the COMBIOTIC® Effect extend beyond the gut. Clinical research has found that children receiving HiPP COMBIOTIC® experienced a lower incidence of certain common childhood infections, including diarrhoea and respiratory infections, compared to standard milk formula-fed groups.

Beyond its clinical benefits, tolerability remains an important consideration in young children’s nutrition. Tolerability refers to how easily a baby digests and accepts a specific formula without experiencing significant gastrointestinal or physical distress.

Studies have shown that children fed with HiPP COMBIOTIC® demonstrated high tolerability, leading to better sleeping behaviour, alongside softer stool consistency associated with a higher water content in stools.

15 Years of Research and Innovation

Backed by 15 years of research and clinical experience, HiPP COMBIOTIC® reflects HiPP’s commitment to combining scientific innovation with nature-inspired nutrition. Developed to support the healthy development of the intestinal microbiota and immune system during the early years of life, HiPP COMBIOTIC® continues to build on the brand’s long-standing approach of drawing inspiration from the natural composition of breast milk.

Editor’s Note: HiPP COMBIOTIC® is available in Stage 3 (for children aged 1–3 years) and Stage 4 (for children aged 3 years and above). Both variants are available at a recommended retail price of S$55.50 per tin. Products are available at selected retailers including Cold Storage, FairPrice Finest, FairPrice Xtra, Sheng Siong, Motherswork, RedMart, Lazada and Shopee.
