7 music classes for toddlers

Play some music and watch your toddler dance! Yes, toddlers love music and have lots to gain from it. It is fun and encourages movement, which is important for young kiddies who are honing their motor skills.

A study by E. Glenn Schellenberg, at the University of Toronto, shows that there is a "positive association between music lessons and higher school grades and higher scores on achievement testing in mathematics, spelling and reading."

Music is also a great way to bond with your child. So, when you do the chicken dance, or tap your feet, your toddler will jump with joy! Here are some lively parent accompanied classes in Singapore, to get you started.
Our Music Studio

Our Music Studio

This cute little studio located at Tanglin Mall, Singapore does some cool music classes for tots. Lessons are different here because of the different instruments that kids are exposed to - from a variety of drums, percussion instruments to cymbals designed for tiny hands.

Each term has a new theme, and music educators introduce kids to songs, from different parts of the world. They have special classes for the holiday season, with songs drawing inspiration from festivals. Book a trial for your toddler, and find him tapping his feet to the musical notes.

Staccato! Music school

Staccato! Music school

At Staccato, children develop self-confidence and creativity through music. The Beethoven Toddlers class opens with a hello song, followed by introduction to rhythm. Egg shakers, wooden sticks and bells, help children understand about music.

Educators then introduce music and movement, where toddlers play with balls, hula-hoops and parachutes with foot tapping music in the background. Musical instruments like drums, mini guitars and xylophones are brought to class for children to play. Best of all, kids love playing the toy piano brought to class, at the end of the lesson.

Run by Debbie Hall, Jiggle Wigs is an informal music program run at various condominiums across Singapore, making it super convenient to visit. Debbie makes it really fun for tots by using balls, beanbags, scarves, bubbles, and shakers to get kids dancing.

The music and dancing is pretty informal, which kids totally love. Turnouts are also pretty large, allowing kids to bond with others in their age group, while mums mingle alongside.

To give distracted toddlers a break from the monotony, the classes have a craft component as well. You will totally love attending the end-of-term concert performance showcasing your child’s talent.
