A video of an anonymous mum who locks her child in a cage gained viral fame. However, most netizens suppressed criticism upon learning why the mum does it. In truth, the woman reveals she hates locking her child.

Raising a child will never be easy; it becomes a lot more difficult when doing it alone. There are a lot of difficulties in parenting a child all by yourself. It also affects your energy, confidence and happiness.

Aside from that, those who need to raise children alone have to adapt to a drop in income. They need to have a compromised lifestyle and even change their house or neighbourhood.

Challenges can be overwhelming at times. They need to combine the roles of two people with raising the children and running the house. All this especially applies to this mum who locks her child in a cage.

Mum Locks Child in Cage While She Works

A video clip of a child in a cage went viral on social media. The footage spread widely on China’s Twitter-like app, Weibo. It displays a young boy locked inside a cage on a push cart.

The 12-second clip shows the little boy reaching through the grilles of the cage for the person taking the video.

Additionally, you will notice a sign that attempts to hide the cage from passersby. It also shows that the pushcart operator sells flavoured iced jelly, a type of dessert.

Why She Resorted to Locking Her Child in Cage

The mother and child live in Tongren in the southwestern province of Guizhou. According to the unnamed mum, she had no choice but to bring her child to work.

She said that her family was poor. Because of this, she could not afford childcare. Aside from that, the woman also needed to ensure that her kid wouldn’t run around while she worked.

The mother needed to keep her child out of any trouble as she cannot pay attention to him at all times. As a solution, she resolved to put her child in a cage to maintain his safety.

The woman said that she works about eight hours daily.

“We don’t have money,” the woman said. “Every time it comes to the time to buy milk powder, we don’t have cash. We eat one meal, and there’s no money left for the next.”

She also added that she had no choice but to bring her child with her. She could not afford to leave the child to his father as he shows no care at all. Moreover, the father usually spends his time playing online games.

Meanwhile, the woman admitted that she was causing her child’s suffering. Left with no choice, the woman explained:

“I try to let him out when there aren’t customers around. I know my child is suffering so much.”

A year ago, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China was able to eliminate extreme poverty. He claimed that his government had lifted “all 98.99 million people” in poor rural areas out of poverty.

The government of China encouraged couples to have more children in the same year. They are enacting a landmark policy shift to allow people to have up to three children.

However, many couples in China say that they cannot afford to start families. They consider the high cost of raising children as a factor that hinders them from having more kids.

5 Tips for Raising a Child Alone

Raising a child alone can be overwhelming; you are the only person taking on the parenting load. Regardless of past circumstances, parents raising children alone face some unique challenges. Here are some tips that will help you manage the difficulties:

Fin Support From People Around You

It is not harmful to find support; do not be afraid to ask for help when you need it. You can hire a nanny or request a relative or neighbour’s help.

Don’t Be Ashamed of Accepting Help

Some single parents are hesitant to ask for help when in need. However, all parents benefit from a community of friends and family to lean on. Go ahead and accept offerings of help from your loved ones.
