Stamford American International School’s Early Learning Village (ELV) is a highly innovative preschool that welcomes children aged 2 months to 6 years. Our unique curriculum is guided by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP), with STEAMInn – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Innovation being integrated throughout. Our teachers carefully monitor children’s learning and their observations help discern what the child needs to move forward in their learning. Our educators then adapt the learning spaces to meet the needs of their children.
We also take elements of Reggio Emilia in our daily approach to teaching and learning, where the ELV has been built for safe, experiential learning. It’s a treasure trove of state-of-the-art school facilities, including six outdoor playgrounds with lots of space to run and play, a covered swimming pool designed for learning how to swim, the Hive which is an indoor air-conditioned gymnasium, a well-stocked library, light filled classrooms with a free-flow large balcony space adjoining each and every classroom. We also have teaching kitchens and sensory rooms for our younger learners.
Another key principal of Reggio is the ‘100 languages of children’ which implies that children have different ways to express their thinking, and for us at Stamford American, this means we provide multiple means for learning and expression (e.g. talking, writing, drawing, painting, wire sculpture, clay modelling, music, dancing, acting, etc).
This also comes across in our world-class specialist programs, which include specialist languages of Mandarin or Spanish, English as an Additional Language (EAL) support, an innovative and unique Bilingual English/Mandarin program. We also offer the world-renowned Suzuki Violin Program from the age of 3, with the option to progress to cello from KG2. We also offer physical education from 18 months through the introduction of the acclaimed SMART Steps and Perceptual Motor Program, and we are very proud of our Instrumental Music Program (IMP) for children as young as 3, where they can have 1 to 1 private or group music tuition, taught by highly qualified music instructors.
Collaboration and cooperation are important and we strive to work together with parents. Showcasing our deep commitment to student well-being and the strong relationship we enjoy with our families, we provide school updates in the form of five daily teacher blogs, a weekly newsletter, four quarterly reports and two parent-teacher conferences.
Global Mindedness lies at the very heart of our ethos and the core of our daily school life. We are proud of the 75+ other nationalities that make up our student population. Together with our academic teaching teams, which comprises over 30 nationalities, our truly international community embraces diversity.
At Stamford American, every student is treated as a unique individual and is given the direction, counsel and support to discover their own potential. Our staff are committed to encouraging a lifelong love for learning. We want to give our students the skills they will need to face the ups and downs on their path to becoming outstanding global citizens.
