3 easy microwave recipes!

If you think that your microwave oven is just for reheating last night’s leftovers or defrosting a frozen chunk of meat, we uncover for you a new wave of gastronomic delights that you can whip up with just this everyday home appliance.

Baked prawn paste chicken

Baked prawn paste chicken

Ingredients:

450g chicken thigh A pinch of salt 1 tsp sugar 1 tsp soy sauce A dash of dark soy sauce A dash of pepper A dash of sesame oil 2 tbsp Chinese wine Hua Diao Jiu 1 tbsp prawn paste 1 tbsp corn flour   Method: 1. Cut chicken thigh into bite-sized pieces 2. Marinate chicken in seasoning for around 1 hour 3. Bake in your microwave oven at 200 deg Celsius for 20-25 minutes
Steamed prawns in evaporated milk

Steamed prawns in evaporated milk

What you need: 700g prawns 50g chopped garlic 10g shredded old ginger 10 shredded red chilli 50g shredded spring onion 1 tsp salt 1 tsp sugar 1/2 tsp light soy sauce A dash of pepper A dash of sesame oil 3 tbsp evaporated milk 3 egg whites   What you do: 1. Wash and de-vein prawns, then put on a dish 2. Combine salt, sugar, light soy sauce, pepper, sesame oil, evaporated milk and egg whites together. Pour this seasoning over the prawns 3. Top with garlic, ginger, red chilli and spring onion 4. Microwave on high power for 10 minutes
Oriental roast beef

Oriental roast beef

 

Ingredients: 1 kg Sirloin beef 1/2 coarsely sliced onion 1/2 coarsely sliced carrots 1 stalk coarsely sliced celery 1 tbsp coarse black pepper 1/2 tbsp finely chopped garlic 1 tsp paprika powder 1 tbsp oyster sauce 1 tsp salt 1 1/2 tbsp olive oil   Method: 1. Combine black pepper, garlic, paprika, oyster sauce, salt and olive oil into a paste 2. Marinate beef chunk for at least 1-2 hours 3. Toss vegetables with marinade and place beef and vegetables on a roasting tray 4. Grill in microwave oven for 35-45 minutes 4. Rest the beef for 15 minutes before slicing and serve
