Can you believe that it has almost been 3 years since Michael Jackson passed away? The king of pop’s music career is immortalized forever in music history. Yet, like many celebrities, his personal life is carefully kept under the wraps. However Oprah Winfrey managed to secure a personal interview with the 14-year-old Paris, Daughter of Michael Jackson, to find out more about the family life of one of the most famous celebrities of all time.
In the spotlight
Paris Jackson is scheduled to appear in an upcoming film, much to the concern of her guardian and grandmother Katherine Jackson, as well as her aunt Janet Jackson. She plays a part in the fantasy film “Lundon’s Bridge And The Three Keys” but her relatives fear that she is too young to be in the spotlight
Kathrine Jackson said in an interview that she was “pleased and concerned at the same time” because she thought Michael would not “have wanted her to be out this soon”.
Janet Jackson also voiced her disapproval, she said: “I think there’s a time for everything, and now is not the time [to act in films]. She’s a very tough, smart girl. But it’s a cut-throat industry. I wouldn’t want my child to do it.”
Family life
Paris and her brothers, Prince and Blanket, had been closely sheltered during Jackson’s life but have been in the public eye since, appearing onstage at Grammy Awards and on other TV shows.
One of Michael’s oddities was his habit of covering his children’s face in public. Paris said that at first she did not understand, but recognized later on that he was doing so to protect their identities. This allowed the children to carry out normal childhood activities without him and not be recognized and harassed by the public as a result.
Paris said that her father “didn’t really have a childhood” as he constantly performing and singing. Thus when he had children, he wanted them to experience those precious childhood years. Paris shared that her father brought them as well as let them go to normal malls and fast food joints in hopes that they could have a regular life.
Photos showed Paris in karate classes and in the public, unmasked and unrecognized. When her father was not around, she could live normally as no one knew her to be Michael Jackson’s child.
Living on
On talking about her father’s death, Paris revealed to Oprah that “it never gets easier”. To lose your father at such a young age is certainly a traumatic and experience.
Current news shows Paris to be following somewhat in the footsteps of her father. She is making her mark in the entertainment industry by playing a role in a film. This is happening amidst disapproval from her relatives. It could be a cause for concern, that despite her father’s constant need to mask her appearance when he was alive, she has stepped forward upon his death and willingly placed herself in the media’s spotlight. It is important to note that she is only 14 years of age.
Will this bode well for her and the Jackson family, we hope so, but only time can tell. What do our readers think?
